A new Syrian edition of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion (2005) featured at the Cairo International Book Fair and exhibited with other Syrian-published anti-Semitic books. It combines Christian European and traditional Islamic anti-Semitic myths with political propaganda encouraging Palestinian terrorism and predicting the disappearance of the State of Israel. The Syrian publishing house Dar Al-Awael notes in its foreword that publication was authorized by the Syrian Ministry of Information, providing additional proof that the current Syrian régime is infected with a vicious strain of anti-Semitism also marketed to the Arab-Muslim world.

The front cover of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion (2005 edition).
It symbolizes the Jewish desire to control the world.

The Syrian régime, both the former, controlled by the late president Hafiz al-Assad and the current, controlled by his son Bashar, is infected with anti-Semitism. The comments made by Bashar, the anti-Semitic bias of the Syrian media (including the production of anti-Semitic TV shows such as The Exile1) and the publication of anti-Semitic books (including the new edition of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion) have all given witness to it.

1. TheExile (Al-Shatat) was produced by Syria and distributed by Hezbollah in Lebanon via its satellite TV station, Al-Manar. Another TV show which combined anti-Israeli propaganda with vicious anti-Semitism was The Garden of Death, which was broadcast in Syria, Lebanon (via Al-Manar) and the PalestinianAuthority.

A new edition of The Protocols was published early in 2005 and, as noted by the publisher, authorized by the Syrian Ministry of Information in May 2004. It is marketed through DarAl-Awael’s Internet site, as are other anti-Semitic books. The site provides pictures of the front covers of 119 books published during 2000-2005, many of them anti-Semitic in nature (See Appendix C). At the same time, Dar Al-Awael’s home page boasts that it encourages mutual respect and refrains from using language which encourages violence and hatred.

Dar Al-Awael Publishing House
The roots of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion lie in classic, Christian European anti-Semitism; however, the introduction to the Syrian edition also supports its libels with Islamic sources, and the result is a fusion of European and Islamic motifs. Not merely a reissuing of the familiar Protocols, it has been prefaced with an introduction and chapters dealing with current political issues, combining anti-Semitic myths of Jewish world domination, theories of Jewish influence on world politics and on American policy, encouragement of Palestinian terrorism and blatant anti-American and anti-Israeli incitement. Israel, according to the introduction, is doomed to disappear from the face of the earth. He asks: “Have the aims of The Protocols been achieved, have their plots been successful? Are the collapse and end of the State of Israel still undecided issues?”
Anti-Semitic material published in Syria is distributed to the entire Arab-Muslim world. One example is the new edition of The Protocols was exhibited at the Syrian publisher’s DarAl-Awael’s stand at the last Egyptian International Book Fair (January 27 - February 8, 2005), held in Cairo. The Fair is considered the most important event in the Arabic publishing world’s calendar. Twenty-five countries participated, 16 of them Arab nations. Western countries were also represented. It should be noted that the Fair’s directorate was able to exclude materials considered problematical by the Egyptian régime. On the other hand, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion and other anti-Semitic books published in Syria and elsewhere in the Arab world apparently were not considered offensive to the régime in any way, their import into Egypt was not restricted and they were allowed to be shown and sold at the Book Fair.

Dedication (Page 11)

To the Arabs of Palestine, who stand firm and patient, defending Al-Aqsa mosque – the first to which the prayer [of Islam] is directed and the third most important Muslim site [after Mecca and Madinah]; in the name of Arabs and Muslims all over the globe, and to all those who stand by them and support them.

To the shaheeds of the blessed Al-Aqsa [mosque] and all those who died the deaths of martyrs for the sake of Allah in Palestine.

The dedication: original

May Allah grant me the privilege of dying the death of a martyr for the sake of Allah [shahadah]3 in Palestine.4

3. The word used by the author, shahadah, often appears in Palestinian (and other) texts in Arabic as a synonym for istishhad in the sense of “suicide bombing attack.”
4. Terrorism and anti-Semitism: On page 12 two verses from the Qur’an appear, the first of which is often used on the posters issued by the Palestinian terrorist organizations commemorating shaheeds, especially those who have perpetrated suicide bombing attacks during the ongoing violent Palestinian-Israeli confrontation which began at the end of September, 2000: “And reckon not those who are killed in Allah's way as dead; nay, they are alive” (Surah 3, Al-Imran, Verse 169).

Translation from the Introduction to The Protocols (Pages 13-14)

In the name of Allah the all-merciful

Praise be to Allah, master of the world, a prayer and blessing to our lord Muhammad, who was sent to forgive and have mercy on the world.

To the matter at hand,

At the beginning of the twentieth century a disaster was visited upon us – upon the Arabs in general and Palestinian Arabs in particular – in the form of the Jews, and behind them, the Zionist movement. The aim of the Zionist movement is to gather all the Jews into Palestine and to establish a state for them there, that is, in the heart of the Arab homeland.

Even before that, from the beginning of the nineteenth century, Western colonialism plagued us; it was terrible, an awful problem and a great tragedy. However, praise be to Allah, by means of our sustained effort, struggle and great sacrifice, we divested ourselves of colonialism. Yet it left behind it a schism, territorialism and ethnic divisions from which we suffer to this day. Before it departed, colonialism left a firm base for [the causes of] schism and territorialism, both of which it continues to support. In fact, it fights [us] and prevents unity and mutual rapprochement among the Arab countries.

However, worst of all was the establishment of the State of Israel5 in Palestine, the heart of the Arab homeland. Western European colonialism established it and, with the exception of the United States, continues to support it, foster it, take it to its bosom and guard it security. That is done to keep it as a drawn sword over the necks of the Arabs.

The United States currently supports Israel and paves its way of force and might so that Israel has become what we know it to be: a country politically above the law and militarily stronger than all the other countries in the Middle East.

Actually, a disaster has befallen us in the form of the grudge-bearing Zionist Jew, cursed, hostile, cheating, treacherous, activated by his roots which impel him to bear a grudge against all the nations of the world. He receives his inspiration from studying their Torah, Talmud and the instructions of their highest religious council, the Sanhedrin. Finally The Protocols of the Religious Elders appeared, known as The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. [The Protocols] explain [to the Jews] in essence theobjectives and how they plan to enact their plots of political, economic, and finally military domination of the entire world. They [The Protocols] draw upon instructions found in the Torah, the Talmud and the teachings of their religious elders and of their religious council, the Sanhedrin. They [The Protocols] overflow with incitement to commit treason and to conspire, dominate, be arrogant and exploit other countries. They [The Protocols] teach them to treat all those who are not Jews, the “infidels,” that is, “others” as having been born to serve the Jews. That is, all [other] people are the slaves of the Jews, enslaved to them, like domesticated animals. All of the foregoing will be clearly illustrated in The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

However, it is [also] our duty to discuss the psychological roots of the Jews, the forces that guide their evil deeds and their perverse behavior. They were used and supported by the [cruel] dictators of colonialism, whose aim was to exploit the Jews to exhaust the Arab nation by leaving it weak and divided. That was done to insure their hegemony over the Arab countries and to exploit the Arabs’ natural resources.

Therefore, we as Muslims and Arabs need most of all to recognize the [hidden] intentions and objectives of the Zionist Jewish enemy, the sources inspiring their perverse behavior and their [flawed] moral principles. Those are the forces driving them to bond strongly only with other Jews, to keep entirely to themselves and in not to integrate or assimilate themselves into the societies in which they live. That is because the psychology built into their souls directs their behavior and guide every facet of their activity.

We will discuss those roots below in light of their importance for the understanding of the true nature of the Jews .

5. The name of the State of Israel appears in parentheses here and in other places. It is the author’s way of denying its existence and calling its legitimacy into question.

Excerpts from the book
Part One: The roots of the ancient Jews (Pages 16-17, 26, 30)

“The terrible deeds they did to [other] people explain the behavior of [those] people toward them, [as] has been recorded throughout history. [They also explain] the [unceasing] struggle against them, the fierce hatred felt for the Jews and the repeated attempts to destroy them. [Those attempts] were motivated [by the rule of] an eye for an eye, and by self-defense, under the assumption that it was the only effective method against them. Among those acts of destruction were the slaughter [of the Jews at the hands] of the Assyrians, the Babylonians, the Greeks and the Romans, and in modern times by the Russians, the Poles and the Germans.”

Later pages contain a survey of “the roots of the ancient Jews,” based on previous “research,” the Old Testament and the Qur’an, and include references to modern events.

The chapter headings of the survey are:
Allah’s chosen people:” The Jews see themselves as the Chosen People and all other nations are their servants.
The Divinity is their exclusive god:” The Jews think the Divinity is theirs alone, despite the fact that Allah is the lord of the world.
Judaism is a closed religion:” The author contends that today Judaism is a closed religion although in the past the Jews accepted converts and thus swelled their ranks.
The divine promise and the Promised Land:” The Jews believe, according to the Torah, that the Land [of Israel] was promised to them, but according to the Qur’an that is not the case. That is because the fulfillment of the promise depends upon following the righteous path of Allah [from which the Jews have strayed].
The Jews are treacherous:” They have no consideration for other people’s money and they are barbarians. The author gives a number of examples.
The laws of morality and humanistic behavior among Jews are only valid for themselves:” Therefore, certain occupations are practiced by Jews (thus harming only others), for example:
Money lent at interest : principally by Jews, who control the banks and the stock markets.
Slave trading : especially females and young boys.
Prostitution : from time immemorial a Jewish occupation, and a field dominated by Jews.
  Drug dealing :

[Page 26]

“The Seventh Root: The holy Jewish matzoth
Matzo is unleavened bread. It is made of fine flour which is kneaded [into dough] without the addition of yeast and baked before it rises. The Jews prepare this bread, the matzo, for their holidays and religious feast days such as Passover, Purim and circumcisions. The feasts also include the sacrificing of sheep and goats older than three years of age.
So far the situation is normal and there is nothing strange about it, but the Jews deviated from the instructions in the Torah and perform human sacrifices of non-Jews. The victim’s blood is kneaded into the holy matzo dough when or just before it is rolled out. Their high priests use the blood in their magic ceremonies.
Many instances were discovered in Europeof children who were kidnapped so that their blood might be used after they had been sacrificed. Those events had a negative influence on the Jews, even leading to their expulsion from Britain in 1290 under King Edward the First.”

[Page 30]

“From some of our brothers [i.e., Palestinians] I heard that the Jews perform themost barbaric acts on whomever they catch. The bodies of many of them were returned to their relatives or their relatives found them thrown [on the ground] close to where they lived. Their stomachs had been opened and their kidneys, liver or heart had been removed and then they were sewed up again. They their eyes were burned out with red-hot iron [pokers]. And that is in addition to youngsters who disappeared and no one knows what happened to them. Some of the bodies were returned to the families and they had been completely butchered.”

[Page 36]

Greed and the spread of corruption in the world by the Jews
“Actually, for the Jews the two are linked to one another. The reason is that the accumulation of wealth and getting rich quickly are only possible if corruption is widespread. [It is well known that] the Jews are world champions at spreading corruption and immorality, at hiding them and at buying supporters with bribes. Therefore, wherever Jews are found, corruption spreads and enormous treasures are collected with amazing speed.”

Information about Dar Al-Awael Publishing House and the anti-Semitic books it issues (taken from its Internet site, www.daralawael.com).
Dar Al-Awael Publishing House was founded in 1999 by Yazin Daoud and Isma’il ‘Abdallah al-Kurdi. The company is a member of the Syrian Publishers’ Association and the Arab Publishers’ Association.
Its principles include “respect for [the opinions] of others” and the non-use of terms like “violence,” “cognitive fixation” and of various expressions of hatred, etc. It aspires to the “creation of a new Arab world view” based on “serious, constructive dialogue” (principles which are diametrically opposed to the preaching of hatred and violence toward the Jewish people as expressed in The Protocols of the Elders of Zion and other books it publishes).
Dar Al-Awael publishes books on a wide variety of topics, including philosophy, religion, science, culture, politics and society in the Arab countries and the rest of the world, and literature as well.
The following are some of the anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli books published by Dar Al-Awael, taken from its Internet site and from a list that appears at the end of The Protocols.

The Great Hoax – Are the Jews Really Allah’s ChosenPeople?

Dr. Muhammad Jamal Takhan, 2003

Iraq First – Israel’s Lightning War [reminiscent of the German blitzkrieg] against Middle East Oil

Joe Fields (?)
Translated by Marwan Sa’ad al-Din, 2003

The International Criminal Court and the Crimes of Israeli Leaders

Zafer bin Khadhraa’, 20028

8. The author is a lawyer who has served as legal counsel to the PLO. He lives in Syria and opposes the peace process. The cover of the book depicts Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon as a stereotypical evil Zionist Jew. The book itself preaches hatred for Israel and the Zionist movement under “legal” cover. The introduction compares the “ancient Zionist murderer,” product of the Old Testament’s legacy, and the “new Zionist murderer.”

The Killing [also “murder”] from the Jews and The Protocols of the Elders of Zionto “Knight without a Horse”

Mazen al-Nakib, 2004

Allah or Yahweh? Which is the god of the Jews?

‘Abd Al-Majid Hamu, 2003

The many gods of the Jews: God, Yawheh, Jehovah, the Elohim of Abraham, Isama’il, Yitzhak and Ya’akov. What are their characteristics? Where did the Yawheh of the Jews come from? What are his characteristics? Domination, ignorance, love of sexual congress, pain, lies, etc. Are the Jews monotheistic?9

9. The description of the book was taken from the list of 119 books issued by Al-Awael Publishers which appears at the end of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, where it is book number 71. Henceforth “list of publications.” ‘Abd al-Majid Hamu is a poet, historian and “researcher.” His history books are based on lies and distortions and are rife with anti-Semitic motifs. Among his books are Talmudic Perceptions: the Jewish View of the World; From Moshe to Ezra: How Judaism Grew; The Roots of Judaism in the Face of Historical Criticism; and The Torah: Distortion and Forgery.

How the Jews [artificially] Created the Holocaust

Norman Finkelstein, translated by Mary Shaharstan, 2003

The Jews and Love of One’s Fellow Man: Those Who Are Not Jews as Seen Through Jewish Eyes

Alberto D’Anzul
Translated by Dr. Mary Shaharstan, 2004
Alberto D’Anzul, a secular French writer, turns a spotlight on the structure of the secret Jewish interpretations of the Talmud. He exposes the role of the evil Talmud in forming Jewish character, which makes the Jew the creature most hostile to mankind.
In addition, he explains the attitudes of the rabbis and religious scholars and their unceasing effort to perpetuate the Jews’ distinction, their arrogance and conceit. That led to a complete lack of interaction between the Jews and human society. The Jews rely on the synagogue, the Torah and the Talmud. They are the Jews’ homeland, and the decrees and commandments of the Jewish god are mass murder and destruction.
There are those who cannot approach Allah. They have no religious, scientific or traditional understanding, like the Turks in the far north, the blacks in the deep south and those who are close to them. They are regarded [by the Jews] as beasts without religion. “I don’t consider them human, rather as sub-human but higher than the monkeys, because they look like humans and are much more intelligent than monkeys.” That is a quote from Abu Maimon [that is, Maimonides], a Jewish sage.
Let us examine the work together and see what has been hidden.10

Sharon’s Bloody Triangle: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

Dr. Jamal al-Badri, 2003

Jewish Acts of Slaughter and Terrorism from the Appearance of the Torah to the Present Day

‘Abd al-Majid Hamu,11 first edition 2003, second edition 2004

11. ‘Abd al-Majid Hamu wrote, as noted, a series of anti-Semitic books and publications. Talmudic Perceptions: the Jewish View of the World claims that the Talmud commands Jews to hate the rest of the world and to relate to non-Jews as animals created in human form (Syrian daily newspaper Al-Thawra, October 26, 2003).

Critique of the Jewish Religion

Jamil Khartabil, 2003, one of the Critical Research series

It should be noted that the ideology of the Jewish religion is based on the idea of a covenant between God and the Chosen People and on the idea of the Promised Land, the Land of Canaan, as they appear in the Old Testament.

Their religious text calls upon the Jews to conquer and forcefully dominate the land of another, the Land of Canaan, after they destroyed the rightful owners, to carry out the will of Yahweh and to establish a homeland for themselves .

To justify itself, the religion presents the divine promise and the problem of faith and the idol worship. That means that Jewish religious ideology denies others their rights. On that specific point the Jewish religion spread, enlarged and deepened to reinforce the idea.12

12. A description of the book taken from the list of publications, where it appears as book number 92.

Earlier versions of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion published in Syria and also on sale at the Cairo International Book Fair

The two-volume eighth (!) edition of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion by ‘Ajaj Nuwayhid13 was published in Damascus in 1997.14 Of technical quality more modest than the 2005 edition, it was also sold at the Cairo Book Fair.

13. ‘Ajaj Nuwayhid was a prominent Palestinian active in the Palestinian-Arab national movement in the 1930s. He was one of the first to translate The Protocols into Arabic.
14. The first edition appeared in 1984.
A version of The Protocols was published by the well-known Tlas Research, Translation and Distribution Publishing House. The company also published an anti-Semitic book called The Matzo of Zion, written by Mustafa Tlas, who was at one time Syria’s Minister of Defense. The book deals with the Damascus blood libel of 1840 and was written during the régime of Hafez Assad by one of his closest friends. A new edition was published during Bashar Assad’s régime and was exhibited at the International Book Fair in Damascus in 2002.

About This Book
Do not dare stop [reading] in the middle. My Arab [brother], it is your duty to know with certainly who and what criminal “universal Jewry” [quotation marks in the original] is, which labors to explode Christianity, Islam and all of civilization.
If you stop in the middle you will be committing a crime against yourself, you nation, your history and your descendents, now and for the future.
Don’t be fooled by what you knew until now about “Zionism” and “ Israel” [quotation marks in the original]. Most important is that you learn to recognize “universal Jewry” [quotation marks in the original] behind the scenes, for it has been committing crimes for 20 centuries. “Zionism” and “ Israel” are merely a cloak [for “universal Jewry”]. Therefore you must read these Protocols.
They are a list of the Kabala organizations, bloody and deadly. The Kabala [was inspired] by the Talmud. The Talmud is 19 hundred years old and is founded in the false claim that it is Moses’ oral tradition. And that the written Torah is something else.
You are involved in two campaigns [taking place at the same time]: one is being waged with material weapons, tearing up by the roots and cleansing the earth, and the other is [the necessity] to know with certainty what the Kabala and the Talmud and universal Jewry are.
The campaign is being waged on three fronts: Christianity, Islam, and the mighty Arab brain.
During the second half of the twentieth century the Arabs will be victorious. This book will reveal the truth to you.
