Luhansk unveils monument to victims of OUN-UPAMay 9, 2010 at 16:38 | Ukrainian News
The monument represents a composition with figures of a mother chained to a post and a child stretching hands to the mother and a man with tied hands who strives to protect them.
The monument is located in the Young Guard park in the center of Luhansk.
According to Vice Prime Minister Viktor Tykhonov who took part in the unveiling ceremony, sculptor Mykola Mozhayev is the author of the monument.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by the leader of the parliamentary faction of the Party of Regions Oleksandr Yefremov, Russian State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin, Luhansk Regional Governor Valerii Holenko, and Luhansk Mayor Serhii Kravchenko.
The prime cost of the monument is nearly UAH 1 million.
Budget funds were not used for the erection of the monument.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Luhansk regional council on 15 January 2009 announced a tender to select the best design of a monument "Victims of Soldiers of Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists - Ukrainian Insurgent Army."
