Letters
Letter: An engaging way to spark discussion
Though I am of course familiar with the Israel-Palestine debate, I acknowledge that I am not well-versed enough to provide a solid argument either way. I leave that to those who know more about the issue.
Letter: MSM exclusion is a sadly unknown injustice here
Many of us might not be aware that under current FDA policy, men who have sex with men (MSM) cannot donate blood, serum, platelets, organs, sperm or any other bodily tissues — including bone marrow.
Letter: Sexual harassment in Singapore
I am deeply concerned at Yale’s involvement with the National University of Singapore, as I believe that it compromises Yale’s fundamental values.
Letter: Yale’s unprecedented grief
It is not possible to offer to Yale words of comfort or wisdom at this moment in her long history.
Letter: Misrepresenting black hair
Last Friday, the WEEKEND cover story, entitled “Black Hair,” attempted to explain the inner workings of taking care of black women’s hair.
Letter: A powerful juxtaposition
Occasionally the printed press demonstrates a power that online newspapers can never match. The juxtaposition, in Friday’s News, of the Friday Forum on “Yale Under Investigation” with Sam Lasman’s ’12 corruscating analysis of the persistence of misogynistic atrocities in the modern world could not have been more felicitous, or more trenchant
Letter: Why we invited Christopher Yuan
As members of the Christian community at Yale, we write this letter reluctantly, not wanting to exacerbate further the hurt, confusion and frustration of this past weekend’s events surrounding Christopher Yuan.
Letter: Cut out the clear-cutting
Why is Yale engaged in clear-cutting forests for short term profits? In Washington County, Maine, out of sight of lower New England, the Wagner Corporation engages in aggressive clear-cutting of forest lands on the behalf of Yale.
Letter: Don’t be April-fooled by the Singaporean regime
I was amused to see two side-by-side stories on the front page of the News’ Friday paper.
Letter: Give your peer some privacy
Re: “Franco, #getittogether” (Feb. 26): Please refrain from commenting on James Franco’s tweets, etc.
Letter: A critique in solidarity, on acting in solidarity
Last Friday, the News published my column (“Less party, more earthquake,” Feb. 25), in which I criticized the Yale community for its unsatisfactory response to the recent upheavals in the Middle East.
Letter: Quotas are un-American
In her column last Friday (“It’s time for more Ms. Managers,” Feb. 25), Kathryn Olivarius praised quotas as a means of breaking the glass ceiling for women. While I am sympathetic to the cause of advancing female managers, quotas don’t just “seem un-American” — they are un-American.
Letter: Clarification on a column title
Re: “Relics of a racist past” (Feb. 24): Concerning the headline of the column published in my name, “legacies” is a more appropriate description than “relics.”
Letters: Hire more professionals, not students
Re: “UCS hires student liaisons” (Feb. 1): Dean Edwards’ announcement of the pending appointment of UCS student liaison counselors in the residential colleges is hardly a new approach to the continuing underlying problems at UCS.
Letters: A pointless ‘war’
Most Americans agree: Our Federal Drug Prohibition, aka The War on Drugs, is an ongoing calamity, a colossal failure and a national disgrace.
