STONE TEMPLE PILOTS: Entire New Album Available For Streaming - May 21, 2010
The upcoming self-titled STONE TEMPLE PILOTS album is available for streaming in its entirety on Billboard.com.

A deluxe version of the effort with expanded artwork and two bonus tracks will be available on the May 25 street date. Target will be given a CD/DVD version of the set with exclusive interview content, and Walmart will air an exclusive STP performance in stores and on its Soundcheck web site.

The group's self-titled sixth album is its first all-new effort since 2001's "Shangri-La-Dee-Da".

The effort features the following track listing:

01. Between The Lines
02. Take A Load Off
03. Huckleberry Crumble
04. Hickory Dichotomy
05. Dare If You Dare
06. Cinnamon
07. Hazy Daze
08. Bagman
09. Peacoat
10. Fast As I Can
11. First Kiss On Mars
12. Maver

The disc will be issued through Atlantic Records, although vocalist Scott Weiland told The Pulse of Radio at the time of the band's 2008 reunion tour that he was interested in exploring other options outside the traditional music industry. "When we first talked about putting STP back together, it was do this tour and then see about doing a creative deal with another company, like an all-in deal," he said. "And, you know, if you look at even like RADIOHEAD and a handful of other bands, they make more money doing things in an unconventional fashion as opposed to doing it, you know, with the major labels."

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS reunited in 2008 after a six-year layoff. The band's last album, "Shangri-La-Dee-Da", came out in 2001.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS will be featured on VH1's "Friday Night Alright" concert series on Friday, May 21 at 11:00 p.m. The performance footage was filmed on March 27, 2010 at Chicago's Riviera Theatre.

According to Billboard.com, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS has several TV appearances lined up around its new album's release — including ABC-TV's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" (May 25).

Mediocre!! I might have give it a few listens. It's definitely better than Shangri-La-Dee-Da.

It's not like any of these songs will get airplay on radio or Mtv. The few rock radio stations left in the country only play songs that are ten years old or older unless your band is named Nickelback.

Mtv doesn't play videos unless it's hip-hop or bubblegum pop.

Just a solid rock record that gets better with each listen. Best since Purple, and I liked all of their releases since then, but this just is their strongest set since then.

Kind of a snoozer. This really isn't anything like how Robert Deleo described this album; a classic, kick ass STP record...not in my opinion anyway.

I agree... it will stand the test of time. I def agree with the bluesy vibe of the record. In addition to Lennon, I'd also say there's flashes of Bowie, old Aerosmith, 70's California-style rock, maybe even a little 60's pop in there. You can definitely hear their influences in there, and it's not a bad thing. Dean's playing has really stepped up on this disc, and Scott sounds better than he has in years.

My sediments exactly and yeah your absolutely right about Dean's guitar playing. I doesn't have to be heavy to be a great cd. I wish people would realize there is a lot more to STP then Sex Type Thing.

it just doesn't sound as creative as other STP records. in fact, it's arguably their most conservative release since 'Core'. Weiland's vocal melodies are pretty standard throughout most of the album, he sounded better on his last solo record IMO. the riffs and melodies are great, but not great. And tracks like 'Cinammon' are clearly aimed at the mainstream, for better or worse. That shit is like one step away from prom rock. When i think of STP, no matter how poppy they got in the past, they weren't borderline prom.

don't get me wrong, this is a good record, but it all sounds a little safe and clean to me right now. i'd give it a 7/10.

It's better than I was expecting. Will I buy it? Probably not. Will I pay to see the band? If they play a decent room nearby - sure.

See, I haven't heard this yet. Its all opinion, but I have to dismiss many people's posts when they say "snoozer, but better than Shangra la di da". I thought that last CD was maybe their best. It make me think that #1, if its not STP at their heaviest, people dismiss it(Core), or they listened once & didnt' give it a chance to sink in, because that is what that last album was all about...a great vib on it. yes, many mellow tunes, but very well done mellow, not sappy. It just didn't get any airplay.

But, after saying that, from what I have heard so far, it does seem this is a bit more conservative. The "take a load off" song has nearly the identical verse of BiPolar Bear or whatever that song was called....they are at that age when the well dries up...but I will have to wait to make that assumption.

wasn't a particularly focussed record IMO. It had a lot of great songs but it just didn't flow well to me, whereas all the other STP records do, including the new one. The highlights on Shangri are superior to the eponymous though.

don't get the Bi-Polar Bear comparison either.

For me, it sounds like the bastard child of 'Tiny Music...' and 'Shangri-La Dee Da'. The good songs are really good, but there's an awful lot of mediocrity on here.

It's kind of growing on me. There's a couple of good songs on there.

You start to feel and understand the vibe when you hear the album as a whole...listening to the tracks isolated doesn't do them any justice.

Heavier album would have been preferable, but this isn't too bad.

despite STP's commercial leanings, there might be some good songs on the new STP album. I hate it when that happens. "Vaseline" anyone?

Some of the people who can't appreciate STP's distinctive melodicism and Dean's guitar works (tone, solo, arrangements) are fucking lame. Their heavy shit is badass for sure, but it takes maturity to write "light" songs like this.

pretty good after about 3 listens. Once I got used to the sound of the cd it started growing on me....much like Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop did.
It is quite a change from hearing Scott in VR.

I can dig every song on this new STP album except Cinnamon, definitely has a Tiny Music-ish vibe, which is cool as I love Tiny Music, which wasn't their heaviest stuff, but really catchy and plenty rock and roll. Weiland's vocals are very cool on this new STP album, the guy can change his voice completely on every song. Other hacks like jon bon phony can't even do one style well (how can anyone listen to that no-talent punk? He sucks SO HARD, white trash cheese rock for chicks). Fact is Weiland is a great singer, and STP is the perfect band for him. STP is better than 99% of the bands out there.

It's amazing how bad jon bon douchebag is, isn't it? They are the McDonalds of music, poison garbage with no soul. A normal intelligent music lover will be tempted to put an ice pick through their eyeballs when subjected to even 5 seconds of that nail-on-a-chalkboard voice, 3rd grade lyrics, and THE worst album and song titles ever released (when we were beautiful, superman tonight, someday I'll be saturday night?!?!...these are actual bon phony titles...) Bon phony = the antichrist. Ok rant off...

what a let down. I'm trying to listen to it and the songs just bleed together and the album as a whole is pretty forgettable. There are a few shiny moments on the record but for the most part unfocused and average. They should have just re-released Army of Anyone and had scott sing back over Richard Patricks lyrics. That would have been better. Maybe it will grow on me. I guess I'm gonna go listen to it some more and try real hard to like it while I finger my ass and eat a bowl full of blueberries

One and a half tracks into this album I hearing a typical stp effort. Granted they're are my favorite "grunge band" It doesn't beat Core but it is better than Purple. The DeLeo brothers are big time Zep heads although you'll never hear them admit it publically. And Dean does a lot to keep traditional rock and roll guitar alive and does it better than the majority out there by playing killer solos and picking up a slide. But yeah, it's John Lennon Cheap Trick influenced. Very clean effort. Worth buying.

Normally, I like STP (not in love with Weiland like T-Boner is, though...) but I have to say that this album so far has been a huge disappointment. I honestly thought I downloaded the wrong album or something. All I could think of while driving to my office this morning was, "Holy shit, did I download a goddamn Killers album by mistake?" Seriously. It is that bad. The album may say STP but the sound sure as fuck doesn't. I noticed that Brendan O'Brien isn't at the helm for this one. And that could be the reason why it sounds so unfinished. It really sounds like a bunch of under-produced demos to me. Maybe the songs haven't grown on me yet but at this rate, I doubt they ever will. I didn't even like Shangri-la-fucking-da or whatever the hell that album is called, but now after listening to this God awful piece of crap, it makes that album sound like Sgt. fucking Peppers. The whole album sounds watered down and it's really a shame to hear what has become of STP.
