Nominations for Salam Prize invited

ISLAMABAD: Abdus Salam Prize Committee has invited nominations from the Pakistani physicists for the Abdus Salam Prize in Physics for the year 2009 and Biology for the year 2008, said a press release issued here on Tuesday.

The prize recognizes the outstanding research achievements of young Pakistani scientists and carries an award of US$1000 and a certificate.

The prize is awarded only to that Pakistani physicist, who normally resides in Pakistan. The candidate must be less than 40 years of age at the end of the relevant year.

Nominations should be sent to Professor Asghar Qadir, who is Secretary of Salam Prize Committee Centre for Advanced Mathematics and Physics National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Campus of the College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Peshawar Road, Rawalpindi, Pakistan by May 20.

These should include one-page summary of salient features of the research of the applicant, his/her bio-data and copies of all his/her research publications.

The release added that an essay written especially for the prize could also be submitted. These may be submitted as one soft copy and one hard copy or alternately as four hard copies of the required items.

Applicants from all areas of physics and biological sciences are welcome to apply, the statement concluded.
