Salon’s Joan Walsh To Ed Schultz: Rep. Weiner ‘Made Me Look Stupid’

Rep. Anthony Weiner lied boldly to the media for more than a week since indecent photos appeared on his Twitter account, and many in the media who believed him are now airing their resentment and indignation. Among them tonight was Salon’s Joan Walsh, who told Ed Schultz on MSNBC tonight that he made her “look stupid” for giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Walsh had been relatively quiet for the past day or so, but didn’t mince words about how she felt towards Rep. Weiner. “He implicated a lot of us,” she argued, calling his blatant lies “disturbing.” “I looked kind of stupid” she admitted, to which Schultz asked her to expand on why. “I gave him the benefit of the doubt publicly and pointed to the motivations of the people who were bringing this to light… he lied and that’s the worst thing.” She did, in her defense, note that “this was brought to light for political reasons” and that “this is private business, I’m not his wife.” Given these facts, Walsh said she was “proud” of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi for calling for an investigation and refusing to call for a resignation.

The conversation continued for some time thereafter providing the same level of fireworks– Press compared tonight’s coverage to Rush Limbaugh’s and making several parallels to Bill Clinton. “We are now playing right-wing politics,” Press protested, igniting Schultz, who ultimately called the Limbaugh comparison “embarrassing” and telling Walsh and Press they were “in denial.”

NO… he didn’t. You do that everyday all on your own. You need NO help from ANYONE.

Anyone with a brain in her head could see from the start that Weiner’s clumsy answers were an obvious attempt to obfuscate his culpability. If she truly believed Weiner, then she deserves to look like the idiot she is. I suspec,t however t,hat she never really believed his story. I love how liberals are always the victim. Never mind about Weiner’s wife at home, poor Joan Walsh was victimized. Puh-leeze.

How come this one did not get censored like the one on the other thread? Are any of you seeing your posts held up in “moderation”?

I have not seen any logical pattern regarding the censoring of posts here. Last week I tried to post a well reasoned reply, on topic and documented, to another post, with no vulgarity or profanity, no name calling, while all around the insults, profanity, and smug condescensions were sailing through. My post was held for “moderation” and never saw the light of day.

I had a post that was positive to Palin the other day (censored) and just now one that was objective as to Rick perry that was also censored. Do you have to be a lefty to post here?

I’m getting the same thing, it’s a bunch of nonsense. Short post with nothing to them wind up in “moderation” while some bigger ones go rite through. Seems like searching at airports, simple hit or miss attempts to catch something.

Joan Walsh does not look stupid, she is ridiculous. He lied, but she is responsible for her actions. Her mistakes were many, and they were deep. She has no integrity as a person. If she did, she would acknowledge her own mistakes and learn from it. She does neither.

As to Shultz, he says in the clip that the House invesigation is to determine whether his Twitter account was hacked. Well, idiot, that is already known!. Rep. Weiner announced it clearly at the big press conference. Everyone BUT Shultz knows it since the guy admitted it was big lie.

Honestly, how do people watch MSNBC anymore. It’s one thing to hope and support, it is simply asinine to point at the sky and pretend it is not blue.

Exactly. While am socially liberal, I’m conservative because people who blame ‘the world’ and ’society’ for their own bad choices and those of others simply are using an excuse to not take responsibility for their own actions. He didn’t make you look stupid, you did. Like you say, she needs no help to look like an idiot. Once he stated he didn’t know if the picture was of him, etc, every sensible person knew.

    excellent points!

I wonder the same thing. Since you really did have to be an idiot, after his interviews at least, to not see the lying. Yet, she continued to blame breitbart. At that point, it seems more strategy than blindness to facts.

No Joan, it doesn’t make you look stupid. It makes you look like exactly what you are: a knee jerk, finished the KoolAid, liberal ideologue. Just admit that no apology or admission of stupidity is necessary. I’m not sure how you can’t know what so many of us do.

I noticed how Joan pointed out that Weiner wasn’t a hypocrite because he didn’t have a family value stances. That’s why liberal don’t stand for anything.. It’s easier… And they like using that word against conservatives whenever they get the chance. … They can handle being called a creep but never a hypocrite.

Joan doesn’t support calling for a creep to resign but now if he were a creepy hypocrite she would be at the head of the line calling for his resignation.

Is she really blaming someone for looking stupid?

Weiner made the entire Left look stupid, especially the “so-called press”! Nancy Pelosi, on the other hand, is a continuous embarrassment. She’s asking for an investigation because she knows that it’s a long drug-out process that might give Weiner enough time for the story to fade away.

And of course, Ed was named after a horse…

MSNBC, the gift that keeps on giving!

Yes. He’s a disgrace and made fools of any and all of us who were big enough to give him the benefit of the doubt. I’m updating my blog post to reflect this. BTW, wher I go on the internet, some people say Weiner is a republican, and others say he’s a democrat. It seems nobody wants to claim him as belonging to either party.

  • Miss Capri Miss Capri says:

BTW, I took the word of the girl who said there were no suggestive tweets between her and Weiner, I had no idea if Weiner was lying about the hacked account or not. So why would anyone say he didn’t sleeze-tweete when he actually did? The problem remains, the young girls who got dragged into this were horribly treated. Weiner, shame on you for being such a lying sleeze. Though I don’t see how, as one commenter above says, he made fools of the left. He only gave them more ammo to lulz@ and shoot republicanism with.

And this Joan-flamefest is stupid. The fact is, Weiner lied, he betrayed all republicans and anyone on the non-left, he also violated some standards the non-left are supposed to uphold, like, don’t lie and don’t exploit children and don’t be indecent. He might not have made Joan look stupid, but he made her feel stupid, and you flaming gits are continuing his mission by flaming her right here. Shame on you people.

I agree with Ed, it is all about the lying. Joan Walsh is stupid, but Bill Press is ridiculous. Ed is right, they are in denial.

I heard the “x-rated photo” is out there, if so, Press owes Ed a mea culpa.

Hey Joan, you WERE stupid to believe Congressman Weiner. Don’t worry about it though. Reflexively defending prominent Democrats is what you guys at Salon DO.
