Egyptian Association for Change - USA endorses National Lawyers Guild letter.

New York: The National Lawyers Guild and over 50 organizations and individuals have written to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Obama, emphasizing that the United States has domestic and international commitments to ensure that its weapons and its international aid funds are not used for grave international human rights or humanitarian law violations. The letter also highlights that the U.S. Foreign Assistance Act prohibits assistance to the government of any country that "engages in a consistent pattern of gross violations of internationally recognized human rights."
The Guild cites newly-appointed Vice President Suleiman's association with the United States as a key partner in the CIA's "rendition" program and the torture of its victims and also condemns the violent February 3 raids on Hisham Mubarak Legal Aid Center.
We hope that this letter, with overwhelming support from other progressive organizations, will serve as a guide for the actions of the Obama Administration as the situation in Egypt progresses. The Egyptian Association for Change - USA supports the calls urging all Egyptians to take to the streets on January 25th to protest the deteriorating conditions caused by the dictatorial Mubarak regime. The calls come shortly after the Tunisian revolution to capitalize on the overwhelming sense of hope and optimism filling the Egyptian street. The plan is to continue the protests until the regime takes material steps towards democratization which is Egypt’s only way out of the dire situation it is currently facing.

The EAC-USA advocates for political reform in Egypt, including a voting mechanism for the Egyptian Diaspora, and the guarantees of both the freedom of expression and peaceful political participation.

مظاهرات المصريين بالخارج لمساندة احتجاجات يوم ٢٥ يناير٢٠١١

يتظاهر المصريون في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية فى الخامس و العشرين من يناير الحالى ضد النظام المصري. ستطالب المظاهرات بوضع حد للفساد والفقروالبطالة والتعذيب داخل الأجهزة الأمنية بمصر.

لقد حان الوقت للمطالبة بحقوقنا الدستورية و القانونية كاملة!    لقد كشفت شجاعة الشعب التونسي إن السبيل الأمثل للقضاء علي الطغيان هو توحد الشعب. لقد حان الوقت لانهاء ٣٠ عاما    من الحكم البوليسي القمعي. سنبدأ في المطالبة بحقوقنا المسلوبة يوم عيد الشرطة الموافق ٢٥ يناير, و سوف يكون صدي إحتجاج الشعب المصري عاليا حتي يسمعه الجميع و سوف يستمر حتي تتحق كل مطالب هذا الشعب العظيم.     

لقد حان الوقت لنقول كفي لهذا النظام الديكتاتورى! من أجل تحقبق أهدافنا سيتظاهر المصريين في الولايات المتحدة وكندا وبريطانيا بمختلف آرائهم وانتماءاتهم السياسية و الدينية تضامنا مع إخواننا في مصر  .  

سوف لن ينتصرالفساد. 

وانتفاضة الشعب المصري يوم ٢٥ يناير لن تكون نهاية المطاف, ولكنها ستكون بداية لتغيير حقيقي في مصر  .

Tomorrow the Egyptian people are planning to take to the streets to protest against the repressive, corrupt government of Hosni Mubarak, in numbers far greater than we saw on Tuesday.   The government seems to be pulling out the stops to prevent this. 

We've been getting phone calls from Egyptian activists that we work with in the past 90 minutes saying the following:

• The internet went down entirely in Egypt roughly an hour ago, 12:30 am Egypt time - first all access to the internet via computers, then also via cell phones (they could initially access the internet via cell phone after computers were not working).
• 1-2 hrs prior to that, all SMS text messaging went down.  
• currently, we're being told that large numbers of plainsclothes police officers and security officers are going through the streets covering parked cars with gasoline.  The activists expect that the govt plans to light all the cars on fire, claim that the protesters were burning everything, and use that as a pretext to use severe violence to repress the protests, and eliminating all means for the people to relay the truth out of the country.
• they are being told by sources within the regime that very large groups of govt-organized thugs, calling themselves "ikhwan al-Haq" [a group never heard of, roughly translated as "brotherhood of truth"], are going to be in the streets with knives, swords, etc..., attacking and killing protesters in the streets tomorrow; they don't know whether this may be deliberately and falsely leaked to discourage demonstrators; but they do see evidence that these groups are being organized.  they may also claim that these violent groups are the demonstrators as a pretext to use violence on the real demonstrators.  
• they are all expecting all mobile phone service to go down shortly
