West to appear in Donmar’s Life is a Dream

The Wire star Dominic West is to appear in Life is a Dream at the Donmar Warehouse from October 8.

The British actor will play the role of Segismundo, in playwright Helen Edmundson’s version of Pedro Calderon de la Barca’s work, directed by Jonathan Munby.

West’s stage credits include As You Like It at the Wyndham’s Theatre, Rock ‘n’ Roll at the Duke of York’s Theatre and The Voysey Inheritance at the National Theatre.

As previously announced, the new season will also see Rachel Weisz taking to the stage in Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by Rob Ashford. The show will run from July 23 until October 3.

The Donmar’s 2009/10 season at its Covent Garden home will conclude with the world premiere of John Logan’s play Red, which will star Alfred Molina and Eddie Redmayne, and be directed by Donmar Warehouse artistic director Michael Grandage.

Logan is best known as the screenwriter of films such as the Golden Globe Award-winning Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Gladiator and The Last Samurai.

Meanwhile, the Donmar Warehouse will be transferring Grandage’s production of Hamlet for a five-night run to Kronborg Castle, in Elsinore - the setting of the Shakespeare play - on August 25, following the completion of the venue’s year long residency in the West End.
