Biostatisticians Analyze Data, Solve Biomedical Problems
A Nov. 24 story was dedicated to the opportunities available in the field of biostatistics and the skills needed to be successful. It noted that starting salaries range from $60,000 to $100,000, depending whether you work in industry, public health or academia, and the level of education obtained.
The story quoted our division head Brad Carlin.
Understanding the impulses behind addiction
Thanks to a four-year, $2.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, University of Minnesota researchers are examining the role impulsivity plays in addiction. Research at the Center for the Study of Impulsivity in Addiction will focus on cocaine use and binge eating disorder--addictions that share behavioral and neurobiological traits.
SPH biostatistics associate professor William Thomas is working with study lead and center director Kelvin Lim, a professor in the department of psychiatry, to analyze data taken from various behavioral and cognitive tests of those enrolled in the study.
