COMMENDING CONGRESSWOMAN CORRINE BROWN OF THE 3RD CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT OF FLORIDA FOR OUTSTANDING PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT.

WHEREAS, it is with great honor that we recognize Congresswoman Corrine Brown and her tremendous contribution to the people of the 3rd Congressional District in Florida as a champion of public service; and

WHEREAS, the first African American elected to Congress from Florida since Reconstruction, Congresswoman Brown has proven to be a strong advocate for the improvement of Floridians' lives, supporting people-friendly legislation such as the Family and Medical Leave Act, Head Start and the President's Crime bill; and

WHEREAS, the affairs of women veterans are also a focus of Congresswoman Brown and she has been instrumental in changes benefiting the health care of women veterans, bringing reform to VA hospitals increasing the privacy of women veterans; and

WHEREAS, Congresswoman Brown has also been a key voice in transportation issues for Florida, increasing Florida's amount of transportation funds 57% and is lobbying for a light rail project in Central Florida; and

WHEREAS, a learned woman, Congresswoman Brown has attended numerous institutions of higher learning and obtained many degrees, including an Education Specialist Degree from the University of Florida, Bachelor of Science and Master's Degree from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, and an Honorary Doctor of Law Degree from Edward Waters College; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That in recognition of an impeccable public service record and dedication to the improvement of Floridian's lives, we hereby commend Congresswoman Corrine Brown of the 3rd Congressional District of Florida for her outstanding professional achievements and direct that she receive a copy of this resolution as a token of sincere admiration and respect.
