Dallas Mavericks Fans Celebrate First NBA Title (PHOTOS/VIDEO)

First Posted: 06-13-11 08:01 AM   |   Updated: 06-13-11 08:01 AM

As Dirk Nowitzki, Mark Cuban and the rest of the Mavericks hoisted the Larry O’Brien Trophy after their Game 6 victory on Sunday night, fans took to the streets in Dallas to celebrate their team's first NBA title in franchise history.

A sold-out crowd at American Airlines Center in Dallas celebrated outside the stadium after seeing 11 straight 50-win seasons without a ring to show for it.

"I’ve got to suffer or do whatever I’ve got to do. I’m a fan," one fan told of ESPN.com

Another Mavs fans said that that he never thought he would have the opportunity to buy championship merchandise. Scroll down for photos and a video of Mavericks fans celebrating.

as a lifelong San Francisco Giants fan, and a season ticket holder for almost 14 years, I say congratulations to the city of Dallas...after we won our championship the feeling in San Francisco was like something I'd never felt..enjoy this time...it doesn't get any better, and If your parade is even 1/10th of what ours was, there'll be some serious partying going on...

No riots, no fights, no fires, nothing but respectful celebration and fun. Classy team, city and fans.
That is an example to all other cities to follow in the future. Especially LA where I live at the moment.

When the Cowboys won in 1992 or 1993, the celebration downtown was marred by all kinds of violence here. We're not classier or better than other people. Heck, even W is hiding out here.

Tell me why you have to put your own state and town down? Why is that necessary, I just don't get it. I am born Texan and proud to be one...and I can't for the life of me understand why you aren't. Sad.

That was 18 years ago, friend. Everything in this country was a little worse 18 years ago.

That sweep of my team, the Lakers, is what compelled me to believe that the Mavs would win it all. Congrats to Cuban and the Mavs, but, more so to Dirk, Terry, Kidd and Marion- when veterans understand what it takes and how they handle pressure.

No talk of a repeat is a good thing because of their age. The Western Conference is a beast in and of itself.

They should be in the running though, no? With Butler returning, Barea, Mahinmi, and Beaubois being young and still improving, and their depth probably allowing them to rest their older players.

Oh well, the Mavs have to go back to Dallas and the Heat can lick their wounds in beautiful Miami!

Bitter?

Someone sounds bitter. You know most of the Heat players don't actually live in Miami, right?
