A plan to build a cable car line connecting Budapest's Vigadó tér - a square in District V on the Danube bank - and the Buda Castle on the other side of the river was announced at the First Budapest Tourism Conference held in Parliament on June 7.

The city's tourism marketing association BTSZK said the project's permission procedures have yet to start. The investment of Ft 6-8 billion (€22.6-€30 million) would be covered from private funds. If plans go according to schedule, the glassed-in cabins will start transporting passengers above the Danube in one and a half-two years. Tickets will cost €5-€6 per person.

The line is to be called Várkabin (Castle Cabin), and it would be later extended to the Citadel on top of Gellért Hill. [vg.hu]
