Christina Hendricks In 'Firefly' In 2002 (PHOTO, VIDEO)

First Posted: 03/15/11 02:41 PM ET Updated: 03/23/11 09:09 AM ET

Before she was the seductive office assistant, Christina Hendricks was the seductive villager/assassin.

The "Mad Men" star (and future guest judge on "Top Chef") guest starred in two episodes of the sci-fi cult classic "Firefly," during its one season run in 2002. She played Saffron, a seemingly simple villager accidentally married to Captain Malcolm Reynolds in a bargain gone wrong -- until she reveals herself to be far more than that. Far more dangerous than that, in fact.

Here's a clip of Hendricks from the show; check her out as an "invisible" high school student, and then in a 1999 Playboy shoot before she hit the big time.

Between Saffron (Christina Hendricks) and Inara (Morena Baccarin of V) Firefly had some hot women.

Every now and then I pull out all of it... Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Serenity, and Dollhouse and worship at the alter of Joss Whedon. I MISS him and his BRAIN.... Money well spent on all the dvds.

Whatever happened to a sequel to "Serenity"?

Hopefully, this segment will put a light bulb over a producer's head somewhere....

At Comicon in 2008 Joss Whedon said no way there's going to be a sequel to Serenity. Super bummer forever.

It's weird how Joss throws cold water on almost all talk about Firefly.

Either he was seriously bummed out at how it all turned out and just has a reserve of sulk that comes out when it is talked about....or he just refuses to get his or the fans hopes up and prefers to throw cold water on it all the time.

I enjoyed Firefly a great deal, and I love watching this woman no matter what she's in.

She also had a bit part on Whedon's "Buffy": the guy is very faithful to the actors who work for him. My hubby and I loved her performances in Firefly - I just knew she'd get more attention, even in a town dumb enough to cancel that amazing and fun show.

She's such an interesting performer to watch, and thank God finally an actress allowed to have a few curves!

I don't remember the title, but it's the episode where we see Angel's past (bad Irish boy boozing it up in the pubs, he meets Darla and kills his family). She plays a bar 'wench' it's a small bit, but she does stick out as she's just so pretty.

In other news, Paul McCartney was in a band before 'Wings'.

I bought Firefly and have been SLOWLY watching them over the past two years. One or two around mine and the hubby's birthdays each year. We recently saw these two episodes and I jumped out of my seat when I saw Christina. I was so surprised! Also from Joss Whedon's brilliant eye for talent came Vincent Kartheiser in "Angel" (Angel's son! in a bunch of eps) who is now Pete Campbell on "Mad Men".

Because something this excellent must be savored and enjoyed and fully appreciated. By not watching them all at once, I still have a few eps to look forward to...still...after two years! I like knowing I have a fabulous treat just waiting for me....mmmmmm...

Nailed it! Um, I mean I knew who that was, not that I actually nailed it, although I'm not saying that I wouldn't, but that's, um, not what I meant.

Still watch the show on DVD. This was my first glimpse of her and I thought then this was one of the sexiest redheads I had ever seen. A cool character on one of the best shows ever, canceled before it had time to reach a broader audience on TV. I do not know why Christina is on HuffPost so much, but I would rather that the obsession continue with her and away from that Palin shrew.

LOL No AMC gives quality shows a chance and cable does not have to pull in the ratings of a network show.

bring back firefly! way to to get rid of an amazing show/cast/crew! epic fail on fox's part. She is by far the most radiant and stunning of all the cast. The two episodes are great, in fact, she seems like she would join their crew MUCH later if it went on. We can only hope Nathan wasn't joking (but apparently he is) about buying the rights.

I understand Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings. Care to blow the lid off that one, too?

Great show and great character. She was bound to be a recurring 'villian' if the show had lasted.
