Jon Hamm: Directing 'Mad Men' Season 5 Premiere

Jon Hamm

Jon Hamm is already the front-of-camera star of "Mad Men." Now, he'll be the man behind the camera, too.

TV Line reports that the Golden Globe winner will direct the season five premiere of the 60s-set drama, following in the footsteps of cast mate John Slattery, who directed an episode last season.

"The wheels have officially been set in motion to make that happen," Hamm told the site. "It's a very exciting challenge that I'm looking forward to with a mixture of utter fear and excitement."

It'll be the first directing job for Hamm; he's recently expanded his career to big roles in big movies, including his role in "Bridesmaids" and "Sucker Punch."

Aside from being an accomplished actor, Hamm recently co-produced his first movie, "Friends With Kids," which was written and directed by his longtime partner, Jennifer Westfeldt. Hamm plays a supporting role in the film, as well.

January Jones is a clownishly bad actress. I hope her character is killed by a drifter this season.

I agree that she is a bad actress, but I think it's her simple, robotic-like acting that is perfect for a character like Betty. And Betty is a blend of simple, cold and Stepford-ish. The more I think of the casting for this part, I think it was actually a great choice. I wonder if a seasoned actress would have tried too hard could pull off the simpleton approach.

I agree with you one hundred percent. She perfectly exhibits the sensibilities of the "barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen" women of that arrow. They were raised to "stay in their place," and as a result, they suffered in many of those marriages.
I think she's great in that role.

I totally agree. Wouldn't she be GREAT in a scene where a drifter stabs her in a parking lot? We need more Joan and Roger anyway.

I still haven't seen "Mad Men". I just saw "Howl", in which he plays the defense attorney.

My favorite Draper mistress was the young girl in LA. I think her name was Joy? Either way. Too bad Midge is on dope. I bet she has Hep C by now.

Bad news is normally "behind the camera" means less in front of the camera. Not acceptable!

Jon is definitely a throwback to the men of the 50's and 60's. No metro sexuals in that bunch.
Paul Newman, Marlon Brando, Clint Eastwood, Sean Connery, Steve McQueen and many more.
Give me a tall, dark and handsome man's man any day, he knows what he wants and gets it.. Nothing more seductive to a woman.

Been so long, I'm missin you, baby! (In my Anita Baker voice). Can't wait for Mad Men. It's been way too long. They need to throw us little scraps like this to keep the interest because, quite frankly, as much as I love the series I almost forgot about it. It's like a love affair, if you don't stoke the fire, it will go out. And oh yeah, Jon Hamm. Oh yeah, that's all I'm gonna say about that.

He should direct. He is so hot.
