Light rail service to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is now available.
Sound Transit's Link light rail began serving Sea-Tac Airport on Saturday. The first 14 miles between downtown Seattle and Tukwila opened in July and the final segment connecting the Tukwila station and the airport went online Saturday.
Service on the 1.7-mile extension line kicked off with an inaugural ribbon cutting at the airport before the station and trains opened for regular passenger service at 10 a.m.
Port of Seattle officials see the new link as a way for travelers from downtown Seattle to easily access the airport and also as an option for employees.
The new station is connected to the airport by a pedestrian bridge. Another bridge connects the station to a pickup/drop-off area east of the airport.
The next light rail expansion is scheduled to open in 2016 with service from downtown Seattle to the University of Washington.
