You Can Eat Carbs and Still Get Hot Abs

Well, obviously, you can’t eat any and all kinds of carbohydrates and still get hot abs, but carbs are not off the menu just yet. The trick here is to be picky, and to know exactly what carbs you can pick. There are carbs out there that will even aid in your goal of acquiring hot abs. And there are other factors to consider, as well.

Abdominal muscles are developed through exercise, but remember that even if you work out twice a day to whittle down the flab around your middle, it won’t be effective unless you control your eating habits as well. You could be developing major hot abs as we speak, but they’re all going to remain hidden under that layer of adipose flesh on your tummy. The goal here is not just any six pack, you want a flat six pack.

Naturally, diets are different for people who don’t exercise as much as do. When you’re regularly active at developing your body, you’ll need different nutrients to sustain you. You’ll also need different nutrients to build and feed your muscles. Ideally, you should be consuming nutrients from all the different food groups, but an awareness of what will help you at different points of the day, particularly pre- and post-exercise, is going to help you get the abs you want.

Protein has always been an essential in body-building, and fat a major no-no. Carbs, on the other hand, has the fitness world divided. The best way around carbs is to check their glycemic index, which assigns the different carbohydrates according to how they affect our blood glucose and the speed they’re digested and absorbed by our bodies. Carbs with a high glycemic index break down and are absorbed the fastest, those with low glycemic index take longer to break down.

The problem with high glycemic carbs is that once they’re broken down and absorbed, they’re going to store in your body as flab-waiting-to-happen, that is if you don’t expend the right amount of energy right away to use it up. To burn more flab and get better chances at whittling down your midsection for hot abs, most of your meals throughout the day should include carbs with low glycemic index. Examples of these are whole grains, most brown bread and rice, most fruit and vegetables.

Notice, however, that I used the word “most” when discussing your meals throughout the day. Not all. After you work out, you can actually take in carbs with high glycemic index, because they are digested really fast and go straight to your muscles. In fact, you should have some high glycemic carbs after your work out because you’ll need to immediately renew your used up muscle glycogen and rebuild and repair muscle tissue, a must for hot abs. The best high glycemic carbs to intake at this point are food high in natural sugars such as honey, and fruits such as pineapples, watermelons and bananas. You can actually drink a high-carb smoothie and it will actually help you develop hotter abs.

Bottomline, know your carbs. The right ones can be good for you and aid you in your goal of getting flat, hot abs.
