Hi there,

I’m Michael Mukoyogo, host of The Underwear Body, where I give guys and girls tips to go from being somebody to the body. The advice you’ll find here is about how to get the slim, toned and fit look that turns heads. The kind of body that looks great on the beach, or at the bar. From hanging out in stylish clothes, right down to your underwear.

My story; why listen to me?

I’ve been there. I was the skinny guy who decided it was time to “man up” and get big. Eventually following the typical bodybuilding advice out there I gained over 40lbs of bulk. I was certainly bigger. But better?

Well, the people who saw me didn’t seem to think so. You know you’re in trouble when even your sister won’t hold back from tapping on your belly and shaking her head. I was getting the impression that  just being bigger wasn’t going to cut it. But what else was there?

The fact is that as I expanded I was just starting to scare people, even myself when I couldn’t fit into yet another pair of jeans.  I had the final wakeup call when a lady I had met saw me with my top off. I can only assume that because of my size (and the way I was sucking my gut in) she was expecting to see He-man when that T-shirt came off. Lets just say she was disappointed with my body and that made two of us.  This was not the outcome I was after……still, she was probably thinking the same thing!

Discovering The Underwear Body

I had to decide what mattered more; trying to be the biggest dude in my gym, or actually being happy with my reflection? I finally knew the answer; I wanted to look good in my underwear!

It was time to get to work on how to make it happen……….

I now have an approach for getting The Underwear Body

This approach is about bringing the sexy back, and bringing the fun back too. Really I don’t believe there is any point in having a great body, as cool as that is, if I have to become a  monk, and give up my life. But I didnt have to, and neither will you. So without further ado, here are the principles of The Underwear Body:

  • Get better, not bigger
    You don’t really want or need to be that big to turn heads. The trick is developing the right amount of muscle ,in the right places. Its the look that gets you noticed, by the people you want to be noticed by (hint; not pro bodybuilders!!).
  • Body Design, not bodybuilding
    Training 6 days a week, for hours at a time? Endless supplements and eating 6, 7, 8 times a day to try and look like a comic book villain? That’s not my bag baby! Its all about The Underwear Body look.
  • Its OK to aim to look better
    An attractive body is a healthy body.  Besides, improving the look and shape of your body will dramatically improve every aspect of your life. From increased confidence and attractiveness to your career prospects. Its not vanity to want to look your best. Just common sense.
  • Workout and eat in a way you actually enjoy
    The bedrock of health is happiness, and the best, most effective plans are ones we will actually follow. No more dogma. There are no rules except the ones we make for ourselves.  The trick is to find and do, what works for you.
  • Minimize time spent, maximise the payoff
    I’m not afraid of hard work, but I am super afraid of wasting time I could be using to enjoy my life! Less is more.  When you focus on what really matters you get the results real quick. That leaves more time for having fun.

So the proof of the pudding is in the………. picture?!
So I guess if I didn’t show you a picture I might sound like one of those people who can’t back it up. You know, kind of like the chubby guy in your gym who can tell you everything about fitness! So here’s a picture so you can see the kind of shape I’m in using The Underwear Body approach.

The key to this whole thing is being able to get in shape and stay in shape while enjoying your life. A body worth having for a life worth living. Anyway, the best thing is that its actually been fun getting here, and its something I can easily keep up . Sounds cool doesn’t it? It is, and now I’m going to help you get this handled. Its time for you to join the party.

In the old school the gym was a place of enthusiasm, fun and laughter.  Sounds good. Arnold even once claimed that his workouts were on a par with making sweet love!!

Now I’m not sure if I would go that far, but this site is a place where we can share ideas, tips, stories and just have fun.

Excellent body transformation ..
its always the way as guys we think bigger is better but reality if a girls opinion means anything they are looking for something totally different like the underwear body.
For me ,a measure of fitness and health is a defined six pack that’s my benchmark and also it usually means you gonna look good no matter what!

Thanks Dave, Im looking forward to sharing them. You used the word realistic and thats at the centre of my approach. I know a lot of gym rats think that being realistic is a copout, but spending every day in the gym for hours just isn’t cool. Most important though, its just not necessary. We definitely need to get the word out on this one!

Yeah I always find it amusing how often guys and girls opinions are polar opposites on this one. I was out recently and a woman in a shop complimented me on my physique but warned me not to “overdo it”. For most guys the idea of being able to overdo it is crazy.

I totally agree that the six pack is a great benchmark. There are loads of big guys (and gals) around. But the number of lean people I see is a LOT less, and nothing impresses quite like a six pack (Just wish we had some warm weather here in the UK so we could show them off).

This is great way to start off. I really appreciate your approach, and I know others will too. Who wants to be inefficient? I agree, I have no problem with working hard, but wasting time is a pet peeve of mine! Congrats on your transformation man. I always tell my students to work smarter not necessarily harder, and this is proof of that.

thanks! In the old days pretty much everything i did was inefficient. Having been down that road I can definitely say that the price for the results I achieved was WAY to high! I found that as I refined my thinking and my approach it became simpler and simpler to improve my body. Less training, less eating, less reading, but greater focus on what matters, and more results. I think more with less is the future of fitness.

Hey Patrick,

that made me laugh out loud! Having a cut off head makes for a more “artistic” look, like you see on an underwear box. I am actually planning on getting some better pics done at some point. I’ll have to try and keep a straight face when I’m posing :-)

I know exactly where you are coming from on some of the issues. I played baseball in college and received both good and bad advices in regards to fitness. As a pitcher we were told how important it was for lower body strength in assisting our throwing motion. The problem was that all of the leg work involved made my thighs massive and heavy which created a rounded look that did indeed take away from my upper body. I had the worst time trying to fit into jeans or dress pants because I had a small waist but with a larger butt and legs. I’m actually glad that I can take my focus off of leg development to achieve an overall better looking body and there is nothing wrong with it. “It’s OK to aim to look better,” I like it. Keep up the good work!

that’s a really impressive story. It really is amazing to see how we can shape our bodies with the type of workouts we do, and its important we choose in line with our actual goals. In your case it really was functional which I think is great. In my case it was under the misguided notion that I would look better with tree trunks for thighs lol!

Thanks Sam, I like to think so too :-) Now that I’m where I wanna be it’s all about finding ways to do it better and easier, and of course sharing the wealth.

The banner? I found the image myself and had someone knock it up for me (technical stuff bores me to tears). The ladies I know have this look in mind as the ideal so I wanted to reflect that.
