Dog friendly parks with off-leash areas

Get active with your pet!

Getting fit is easy if you live in the City of Canterbury - we have plenty of different exercise and fitness options in our local area for you to choose from.

Having a pet can also be the motivation residents need for a healthier lifestyle and to enjoy the great outdoors and we provide four dog friendly parks with off-leash areas around our City where residents can legally take their dogs off the leash.

In accordance with the Companion Animals Act 1998 and the Local Government Area Act 1993, Council has a number of Dog Off Leash parks.

Improvements to our dog off-leash parks

We are currently making improvements to our dog off leash areas. We have recently completed the upgrade of two off leash areas (see below) to include new facilities such as fencing, seating, dog fountains, dog bins and dog agility or exercise equipment.

These improvements will provide dogs and their owners with state of the art areas to enjoy, which in turn will assist to promote a higher level of health and fitness to our residents and their K9 companions.

  • Restrain your dog. Prior to leaving the off leash area, your dog must be retrained with a leash. The Companion Animals Act 1998 allows for a fine of $220 for allowing your dog to be in a public place when not under the control of a dog leash.
  • No restricted dogs. Dangerous or restricted breeds such as Pit Bull Terriers are not permitted to use off leash areas.
