Not a good book to read on a plane., May 29, 2006
This review is from: Final Destination I: The Movie (Mass Market Paperback)
I originally bought the trilogy of books to take on holiday, but I realised this one probably wouldn't be a great idea to read on a plane! Ugh.
I love reading novelisations of films, it's just fun reliving the film without having to actually watch it, and this is one of the novelisations that actually works. Sometimes, novelisations can be pretty by-the-numbers, but this one adds a few extra scenes, and lots of interesting detail, that never comes across in the film. The description of what happens is so gory, and has you almost putting the book down, it's that gory! Some of the characters are fleshed out more, particularly Clear's character. You find out more about her background, whereas that isn't shown so much in the film.
What I did miss is some of the scenes that were eventually deleted from the final cut of the film, and appear in the deleted scenes on the DVD. I think the Clear & Alex having a child together could have worked quite well in the book, but this is missed out, in favour of the final ending in the film. (I much preferred the alternate ending.)
If you love the films, pick these up, they're cheap if you look hard enough, and well worth reading, as particularly the first one, is quite a thick book. Just don't read it on the way to your summer holiday, or you'll never get on the plane!
