Newcastle College backs Joe McElderry to win X Factor

Newcastle College student Joe McElderry has once again wowed X Factor judges and made it through to the live finals of the national competition.

Joe, who studies a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts at Newcastle College Performance Academy travelled to Marrakesh with mentor Cheryl Cole and was picked as one of her final three in the boys category to progress to the next stage.

Joe McElderry will now have to sing live in front of the judges, studio audience and viewing public to keep himself in the competition. Staff and students at Newcastle College are gearing up to support Joe to win the X Factor with his classmates donning specially made T-shirts in recognition of his success.

Newcastle College Principal, Bev Robinson, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Joe has reached the live finals and have every confidence that he will excel. Joe is a very talented student, who is very popular with both staff and students and his success will no doubt be an inspiration to others at the college and young people with an interest in performing arts.

“The college invested £21million in our state-of-the-art Performance Academy to provide students with outstanding facilities and expertise. Joe is just one of our many success stories and we wish him the very best of luck in the competition.
