Ashley Cockell-Syracuse

Senior, Defender, Fort Assiniboine, Alberta

Cockell tallied two goals and an assist as Syracuse tied Robert Morris in overtime twice last weekend. She scored both of SU’s goals in Friday’s 2-2 draw and assisted on the Orange’s second score in Saturday’s 2-2 draw. Game one of the RMU series marked her sixth multiple-point scoring game of the season. Cockell is 12th in the nation and second in the CHA in defenseman scoring with .73 points per outing.

College Hockey America Goaltender of the Week

Jenni Bauer-Niagara

Senior, Goalie, St. Catherines, Ontario

Senior Jenni Bauer picked up her fourth shutout of the season en route to help- ing Niagara to a weekend sweep of Wayne State. Bauer stopped all 18 shots in Friday’s overtime win. Bauer made 32 saves and had a .99 gaa in the 4-2 win on Saturday. Bauser had a 0.99 gaa, .962 save percentage and 50 saves in two games.

College Hockey America Rookie of the Week

Thea Imbrogno – Robert Morris 

Freshman, Forward, Etobicoke, Ontario

Imbrogno collected both RMU goals Saturday against Syracuse, including the game-tying tally in the third period, to extend her point streak to eight games, tying the Colonial program record. The rookie’s first career multi-goal game occurred as she broke the RMU single-game school record for shots with 11. It was Imbrogno’s sixth multi-point game of the season and third in her last six games overall. Her game-tying goal was her second in two weeks, with both coming in the third period. Imbrogno also opened the scoring Friday against the Orange to tally a trio of goals on the weekend. She has a team-leading 18 points in 15 conference contests and ranks eighth nationally in points per game for rookies.

College Hockey America Honor Roll

Jessica Hitchcock-Niagara (Freshman, Forward, LaSalle, Ontario)Forward Jessica Hitchcock scored two goals and had an assist in Niagara’s 4-2 win over the Wayne State Warriors on Saturday. Hitchcock’s first goal in the third period would prove to be the game winner. Hitchcock, who leads the team in assists with 10, had a plus-2 rating as the Purple Eagles swept both series with Wayne State

Meeri Räisänen-Robert Morris (Kangasala, Finland / Espoo Blues Finland) Räisänen helped RMU to an unbeaten weekend with her 1.85 GAA in nearly 130 minutes of action. She made 51 stops against the Or- ange and has only allowed one even-strength goal in her last 188 minutes between the pipes. She performed well when the pressure was the highest as she stopped all 25 Syracuse shots in the third period and overtime for the weekend, including holding Syracuse scoreless on four power plays during that stretch.

Delayne Brian- Wayne State (Junior, Goaltender, Winnipeg, Man.) Brian made 58 saves last weekend at Niagara, including 31 in a narrow 1-0 overtime loss on Friday. She totaled 27 stops on Saturday and set a new WSU single- season record (947), breaking the 2000-01 mark of Anna VanderMarliere (935).

College Hockey America Team Notes

MERCYHURST: Mercyhurst (26-5-0, 15-0-0 CHA) extended its winning streak to eight games with a two-game sweep of Syracuse last weekend at Tennity Ice Pavilion. MC defeated the Orange by the scores of 4-0 and 4-2 to extend their lead in the all-time series to 13-0-0. Senior captain Meghan Agosta led all scorers with a goal and four assists. Her goal on Saturday marked her 150th career at Mercyhurst and tied her with former Harvard forward Nicole Corriero for most goals in NCAA women’s hockey history. Junior Jess Jones tallied three goals in the series, two of which came on Saturday...Senior assistant captain Jesse Scanzano scored twice in Friday’s win to mark her sixth multi-goal game of the season. Junior Hillary Pattenden (24-5-0) recorded both wins and notched her sixth shutout of the season. Mercyhurst now has seven 10-plus goal scorers this season, the most since the 2008-09 team that reached the national championship game. The Lakers won’t return to action until Friday, Feb. 25 when they host Robert Morris for senior night at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The Lakers took all three contests against the Colonials this season by a combined score of 20-7. Overall, they lead the all-time series 26-0-0.

NIAGARA: Niagara completed a sweep of the Wayne State Warriors to wrap up its home schedule...The Purple Eagles edged the Warriors, 1-0, on Friday and rallied for the win on Saturday, 4-2...Niagara extended its unbeaten streak to four games and is 8-2-2 in its last 12 games...Kathleen Bortuzzo scored the game-winner in overtime on Friday night...The Purple Eagles scored four goals in the third period after trailing 1-0 entering into the period...Jenna Hendrikx, Natasha Fryer and two goals from Jessica Hitchcock were the goal scorers...Jenni Bauer made 32 saves in the win...NU’s four straight win in the series ties the longest win streak since winning the first four meetings from 2000-01...NU’s eight conference wins are its most ever...The Purple Eagles wrapped up the number two seed in next month’s CHA Tournament for the second straight season...Niagara will conclude its regular season at Syracuse next weekend before playing the Orange in the semifinals for the second straight season and third straight season in the CHA.

ROBERT MORRIS: For the second time in two weeks, Robert Morris scored a goal within the final two minutes of regulation to earn a point as the Colonials fought back to claim a 2-2 tie against Syracuse Friday. Junior Brianna Delaney recorded the game-tying goal with just 1:46 left in the third and in the process became the first player in RMU history to notch at least 10 goals in each of her first three seasons as a Colonial. It marked the first time in school history that Robert Morris had earned a point in consecutive games in which it trailed after the second period, but the Colonials would soon add to that figure. RMU orchestrated another third-period rally Saturday against the Or- ange to collect a 2-2 draw and earned a point in its third consecutive game in which it trailed after 40 minutes. Freshman Thea Imbrogno scored both Colonial goals to extend her point streak to eight games, which tied the program record, and also broke the single-game record for shots with 11. Assistant captain Sara O’Malley assisted on both of Imbrogno’s goals to move into sole possession of second place on RMU’s all-time assist list with 43. RMU extended its current unbeaten streak to five games, which is a new program record. A pre-game ceremony honored RMU’s four seniors—captain Whitney Pappas, O’Malley, Daneca But- terfield and Maria Stoa—as it was the final home game of the season for the Colonials. Robert Morris will wrap up its regular season Friday, Feb. 25, with its second visit of the season to nationally-ranked Mercyhurst.

SYRACUSE: Syracuse tied Robert Morris 2-2 in overtime in both games of the series last weekend. SU holds a one game advantage in the all-time series, 5-4-3. In game one, senior defender Ashley Cockell scored both of the Orange’s goals. Both goals were assisted by sophomore forward Isabel Menard. In game two, sophomore forward Holly Carrie-Mattimoe tallied both of Syracuse’s goals. Three of SU’s four goals came on power-play opportuni- ties. The Orange’s penalty kill stopped 16 of Robert Morris’ 17 man-up chances in the series. RMU outshot SU 65-55 in the series, but neither team could manage to break the tie in extra minutes of either game. Freshman goaltenders Jenesica Drinkwater and Kallie Billadeau split games in the series. Drinkwater made 36 saves in game one, while Billadeau turned away 35 shots in game two. SU will return home on Feb. 25 and 26 for its final regular-season series against Niagara before hosting the 2011 CHA Tournament on Match 3-5.

WAYNE STATE: In its final series of the regular season, Wayne State was swept last weekend at Niagara. Fri- day’s result was a 1-0 overtime loss, just the fourth time in program history that an overtime game ended with a 1-0 score, and the first time since a win at Colgate on Oct. 24, 2009. On Saturday, Delayne Brian set a new WSU single-season saves record (947), breaking the 2000-01 mark of Anna VanderMarliere (935). Lauren Coxon and Alyssa Baldin lit the lamp for Wayne State, and Jill Szandzik assisted on both tallies. WSU is idle this weekend and will meet Robert Morris in the quarterfinal game of the CHA Tournament next Thursday.
