Spring All-Courier Teams: Prescott High's Rachel Jacobs nabs prep softball award
Prescott High's Rachel Jacobs entered this spring's softball season in a familiar role as the Badgers' third-year star centerfielder.

However, Jacobs soon switched positions when PHS coach Alvina Green called on her to shore up deficiencies in the middle infield by playing shortstop.

It was really no bother for the senior captain Jacobs. While the change might have been awkward for even the most seasoned prep athlete, it did not faze her.

Spring All-Courier Teams: Prescott High's Rindone, Barnes named top tennis players
Prescott High's Lexi Rindone and Dylan Barnes helped put the Badgers' tennis program on the map this season.

Rindone, PHS's top girls singles player the last two, and Barnes, who went 13-0 in singles in 2011, each went deep into the state tourney this season, although it was a part of a doubles team.

MLB Draft: Prescott High's Howard taken in 21st round
Recent Prescott High grad Michael Howard's plans to play college baseball at Baylor next spring may have taken a hit thanks to news out of Tuesday's MLB Draft.

Howard, who signed with perennial national powerhouse Baylor last fall, was picked by the Minnesota Twins in the 21st round.

Home Depot's Jake Schulz was 3 for 4 and pitched five scoreless innings in the team's 7-5 loss to All-Star Sports. Charles Hicks reached base twice.

For All-Star Sports, Seth Riley reached base twice with a single and a walk, scoring a run. Walker Cahn had a walk in three at bats.

PRESCOTT - When Lou Beneitone stepped onto Bill Shepard Field for the first time in 1997, he thought he'd only be Prescott High's football coach for a couple years.

Local Roundup: Softball, baseball tourneys hit area
Area softball and baseball diamonds will be abuzz with action this weekend.

The two-day, five-team ASA Girls 18U national tournament qualifier will take place at Ken Lindley- and Bill Vallely fields starting Saturday, while the three-day, 16-team Mile High Madness baseball tournament will be played at Prescott High, Yavapai College, Chino Valley High and Bradshaw Mountain High, also starting Saturday.
