Standards for Democratic Parliaments
Major interparliamentary organizations and their partners are working to develop standards and assessment frameworks for democratic parliaments. Such standards can contribute to parliament’s own evaluative and reform efforts to strengthen their performance, as well as guide parliamentary development practitioners and donors in designing more appropriate support programmes.

The annual Donor Coordination Meeting on Parliamentary Development is an initiative of the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Bank Institute (WBI) which aims to provide a regular forum for the donor community to discuss approaches to parliamentary development, share experiences and lessons learned, promote information sharing, and deepen coordination.

IDA 16 and Aid Effectiveness campaign
Parliamentary Network on the World Bank (PNoWB), in partnership with European Parliamentarians with Africa (AWEPA), is pleased to announce the launch of the IDA 16 and Aid Effectiveness campaign.
The Campaign calls on the World Bank to deepen its commitment to aid effectiveness throughout IDA 16 replenishment, implementation and monitoring by focusing on four key areas, with the ultimate goal of bringing the world closer to meeting the MDGs in 2015. Read more

On the basis of UNDP Guidelines for the International Community on Parliaments, Crisis Prevention and Recovery, UNDP hosted a regional seminar “Towards Strengthening the role of Parliaments in Crisis Prevention and Recovery in West Africa”, in Accra (Ghana) on June 27-29 2010 with 60 participants representing 13 parliaments from the region, the ECOWAS Parliament, key international and regional organizations, civil society organizations, and practitioners. APRIL 2011 - Nearly 1,000 parliamentarians from around the world gathered in Panama City this week for the 124th annual assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The main focus was on progress towards reaching the millennium development goal targets for the most vulnerable children.
