Azzedine Alaïa put on his first show since 2003 at the very end of couture week, and everyone that was there seems to be raving over it. And, in case you thought you'd never find yourself in the position of having the same access to something fashion-related as the Vogue editors, now you do! Because they, like most average people in the world, were not at the Alaïa show with the likes of Kanye West and Donatella Versace (who says she invited herself). Alaïa reportedly banned them, and Anna Wintour reportedly banned her staff from going, according to the Telegraph.

Alaïa recently accused Wintour of having bad taste and being scary but little else. He says he has no reason to be scared of her because Vogue doesn't shoot his clothes anyway. Indeed, he and Naomi Campbell declined to partake in the Costume Institute Gala in 2009 after his work was — rudely, he felt — excluded from the exhibit.

Whatever reason Wintour and Vogue have for ignoring him, he doesn't care since his stuff still sells very well, and some of the industry's other Influentials, like Cathy Horyn, think he can't take a wrong step.

Years ago, Ingrid Sischy wrote that an Alaïa outfit says, “Follow me, garçon.”They still do, but you are more aware than ever that many designers (a) don’t design with a specific woman in mind; and (b) don’t design clothes from a 360-degree perspective. As a result, their clothes look flat. They should have a sign that warns: “Don’t follow too close.”

“You can tell these clothes have a lot of hours of work, but the results are always so simple,” said the stylist Charlotte Stockdale, who attended the show with her husband, the designer Marc Newson, as we nosed around backstage afterward. And as often as you see the Alaïa silhouette, Ms. Stockdale added, “you’re never tired of looking at it because it’s so perfect.”

While that happened, Wintour was busy gallivanting around at the Harry Potter premiere in London. To remind you that while in not attending the Alaia show, she and Jane Doe are the same, in the end, she and Jane Doe are absolutely not the same.
