Maccabi Family Grows ? Glenn Solomon (Tennis ?97) met his wife Lisa at the 15th Maccabiah while she was in Israel supporting her mother, Bonnie Kay (Golf ?85, ?97). Glenn and Lisa just had their first child, Tobey Hannah, on March 26. Tobey will be training hard for the 2025 Games (sport to be determined).

Macca-BABIES ? Ron (MUSA-VP) and Talia Carner welcomed their newest grandson on February 14 ? Jacob Elan Miller, son of Tomm and Barry Miller. Mazel Tov to Carolyn Ballan Wasserman, (T & F '85-'93), and her husband David, on the birth of their son Adam (born 1/24/03), joining big brothers Daniel (6) and Josh (4) . . . Toni and Wally Wortman on the birth of grandson Justin Matthew Adler on June 10, 2003 . . . and Taylor Hogge and Bob Spivak on the birth of their granddaughter, Emma Grace Spivak, born on June 3, 2003. Mazel Tov to David (Masters Tennis ?81, ?89, ?93; Pan Am ?95) and Edythe Levitt on the birth of their grandchild, Logan Levitt Schiciano. We can all say a ?shehechyanu? in honor of this new Schiciano . . . and congratulations to Greg Eckstein (Ten Pin Bowling ?01) on the birth of his son last September.

Jon Horowitz (Golf ?93) was recently wed to Anna Goldberg in Houston ? both are lawyers! Jonathan is working hard in establishing a nonprofit organization in memory of his father, Richard, who passed away last year. This organization will raise money for charitable causes, continuing Richard?s efforts as a fundraiser for worthy organizations, including Maccabi USA. Their first annual memorial Golf tournament is planned for this fall in New Hampshire.

Dov Sternberg (Karate ?97, ?01) graduated Cum Laude from Brooklyn Law School and has been admitted to the New York and New Jersey Bars. Dov married Ilanit Bellehsen (Karate ?01) on September 1, 2002.

Darren Levine (Volleyball ?97) is getting married to Julia Pimsleur on June 21 and was ordained as a Rabbi from Hebrew Union College on May 4.

Daniel Greyber (Swimming ?93) was ordained as a Rabbi by the University of Judaism in May 2002. He is the Executive Director of Camp Ramah in California and the Zimmer Conference Center. Daniel lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Jennifer, and their children Alon (3) and Benjamin (1).

Rachel Azaroff (Swimming ?01) completed her first season swimming for Kenyon College, a perennial powerhouse.

Sherry Levin (Basketball ?81, ?85; Manager ?89, ?93), left, is currently working at Worcester Academy as Events Coordinator and Girls Varsity Basketball Coach. Her record in her first two years is 39-11, and for the second year in a row, she has taken her team to the championship game of the New England Class B Tournament. In her spare time, she announces Women?s College Basketball Games, and has been the analyst for Boston College. Her daughter Marcia just turned 6. Michal ?Kalli? Hose (Field Hockey ?93, ?97, ?01) is currently enrolled in a Sports Medicine Fellowship program at UC San Diego, working with athletes in the athletic department of the university, local high schools, and at community events. She also helps out with the San Diego Gulls Ice Hockey and San Diego Spirit Women?s Soccer teams.

Deane and Susan Penn (Masters Tennis ?97, ?01) are also involved in the organization of their local JCC Maccabi delegation. Deane is coaching the 13-14 year old Boys Basketball Maccabi Team, and Susan is in charge of the Opening Ceremonies for this summer?s Games at the JCC on the Palisades.

Mazel Tov to David Weinstein (Juniors Soccer ?01; European ?99; Brazil ?00) who recently finished 8th in the Massachusetts All-Class State Championship in the 300-meters. David has the fastest 100m & 200m time in the central Massachusetts region for all high schools. Proud parents are Jordan and Debbie.

Joe Siegman (Lawn Bowls ?73 ?77, ?81, ?85 and ?89) teamed up with Neville Sacks, originally from South Africa, to win the 2002 US Lawn Bowling Men?s pairs championships, the equivalent of winning the Masters at Augusta.

Fred Turoff (Gymnastics ?69; Head Coach ?85, ?97) received the Honor Coach Award from the College Gymnastics Association and also coached the Temple Men?s Gymnastics to the ECAC. Congratulations to Bernie Fine (Basketball Head Coach ?85, ?93), the assistant coach for the Syracuse Men?s Basketball Team that won the NCAA Championship.

Kenny Barer (Basketball ?85, ?93) is now coach at UMass-Lowell. Kenny had four Israelis playing for him this year. They went 22-4 in the regular season. Kenny and his wife Aryn Landau Barer (Field Hockey ?93, ?97; Pan Am ?95) met at the 1993 Maccabiah and married in 1997. They have three children ? son Solomon 4 1/2, daughter Deva 3, and daughter Jesse Michal, one, left. They feel totally blessed with their amazing children and each other, and often talk about how it all started at the Maccabiah!

The International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame recently announced the next class to be inducted July, 2003 at Wingate Institute. IJSHOF Chairmen, Alan Sherman of Potomac, MD, and R. Stephen Rubin, England, announced that Dutch Tennis champion, Tom Okker, American Journalist, Dick Schapp, and US College Basketball star, Leonard Rosenbluth will join Russian Fencing champion Sergei Sharikov (Olympic medallist in 1996 and 2000), and Al Munro Elias, (who established the Elias Sports Bureau, famous for compiling sports statistics), as the new inductees. Since 1979, 300 athletes and sportsmen, representing 23 countries have been inducted.

Seth Baron (Swimming ?85; Swimming Asst. Coach ?93; Swimming Head Coach ?97, ?01) serves as Head Swim Coach for Georgia Tech University and had an ?Israeli All-American? on his team. Shiloh Ayalon, ACC Swimmer of the Year and NCAA Champion, is one of FOUR Israelis swimming for Baron?s Yellow Jackets. And, Seth will be teaming up with his 1985 Maccabiah teammate, Rick Ehrlich to co-chair the USA Swim Team for Pan Am.

Al Albert (Head Soccer Coach ?81, ?85, ?93 Juniors Boys Head Soccer Coach) is coaching at William & Mary, Seth Roland (Head Soccer Coach ?77-?97) is coaching at Fairleigh Dickinson, Mike Jeffries (Soccer ?81) is coaching Dallas Burn (MLS) and Dave Sarachan (Soccer ?85) just finished a stint as Assistant Coach for the US National Team, and will be coaching the New England Revolution. Bret Simon (former men's open team athlete and Men's Head Coach at Stanford University); Dave Rubinson (former open men's team athlete, '01 Juniors Girls Head Coach and Women's Head Coach at Texas Christian University); Lev Kirshner (former open team athlete and Men's Head Coach at San Diego State University).

Lewis Meyers (Swimming ?85), who won a Gold medal in 3-meter Diving in 1985, despite competing with a broken hand, earned five All-America awards at Nebraska, winning the Big 8 Conference championship four times, and is currently residing in Dallas with his wife Shari and two children, Jeremy and Madison. Lewis was just promoted to Division Manager of Urology Franchise of Ethicon Endo Surgery.

Ben Loeb (Juniors Tennis Head Coach ?97) is currently in his 15th year of coaching high school tennis. Last year, his Boys team finished second in the state of Missouri, and this year his Girls team won the state title.
Stephen Flamhaft (Soccer ?65, ?69) was recently inducted into the New York Soccer Hall of Fame. He has accepted the chairmanship of ?Friends of Soccer,? the New York Chapter of the US Soccer Foundation, which distributes grants to foster development of the game.

Russell Bernstein (Water Polo ?01) was named 2nd Team All-American. He is off to Europe to try out for professional teams. He has been playing on the US National Team since January. And yes, that was Russell?s picture (2 full pages for the big guy) in Sports Illustrated on December 23rd at the NCAA Finals.

Cager Feats ? David Bluthenthal (Basketball ?97) was named Jerusalem Post ?Rookie of the Year? for Israel?s Professional Basketball 1st Division. David plays for Maccabi Tel Aviv. Ryan Lexer (Basketball ?97, ?01) is playing in Portugal; Jeff Kent (Basketball Pan Am ?91 ) is playing in England; and Eric Gingold (Basketball ?01) was playing with the Hitachi Sunrockers in Japan.

Mariann Greenberg (Squash ?85) has been the squash professional at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Scarborough, NY for the last 21 years. Greg Nelson (Water Polo ?81, ?89) participated in the Alcatraz swim (about 1.5 miles), taking 10th place in his age group and 52nd overall.

Melanie Stein (Swimming ?97, ?01) graduated from James Madison U. with a BS in Health Science and a minor in Exercise Leadership. She will be going on to chiropractic school.

Eli Hami (Basketball ?01), scored his 1,000th point for Yeshiva University Basketball team.

Peter Krasny (Juniors Soccer ?93) attended Vassar College where he played soccer and skied competitively for all four years. In September 2002, he married Jenna Lanterman. He still plays soccer at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan.

Bob Myman (Water Polo ?65) was voted into the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame for Water Polo in 2001. In March he was named ?Entertainment Lawyer of the Year? by the Century City Bar Association. He has also reconnected with Maccabiah teammates Leland Faust and Michael Goldstein.

A Memorial Fund has been established by the family of Jeffrey Mosenson (European Maccabi Games, Juniors Basketball Manager ?99) who was killed in an automobile accident this past year. The Fund has been created for young men and women to pursue their dreams with the same love, spirit and dedication that Jeffrey possessed. We mourn the passing of Jack Wexler, who was an avid supporter of Maccabi USA and Maccabi World Union.

Ernest Sherman, father of longtime Board member Alan Sherman, passed away at the end of May at 98 years of age. Ernest was the first to come forward and support the United States Committee Sports for Israel's ?Life Membership Program.? The Organization is indebted to Ernest for his commitment and support.
