Fox Giving 'Narnia' and 'Gulliver's Travels' 3D Releases

Adds to a holiday season packed with 3D family films.

According to ComingSoon.net, Fox is adding two more films onto the pile of a busy holiday schedule of 3D releases: Gulliver's Travels and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Dawn Treader is the third in the Narnia film series, with Fox picking up where Disney left off after the disappointing box office of the last film, Prince Caspian. Returning to the film are Skandar Keynes and Georgie Henley as Edmund and Lucy Pevensie, respectively, as well as Liam Neeson as the voice of Aslan. The film is expected to release December 10.

Gulliver's Travels stars Jack Black as the titular Lemuel Gulliver and Catherine Tate as the Queen of Lilliput. The fantasy film, based on the Jonathan Swift novel, also stars Jason Segal as a tiny little man named Horatio and Emily Blunt and Billy Connolly as the Princess and King of Lilliput. It's scheduled for release on December 22.

Both films will be joining a crowded holiday season of 3D releases which include DreamWorks' Megamind, Disney's Tangled (formerly Rapunzel Unbraided, formerly Rapunzel), the Warner Bros. release Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I, and the highly anticipated Tron Legacy. That's quite the lineup of major 3D films!

It was once thought that 3D technology in film was reserved mainly for gimmicky B-movies and, up until fairly recently, that remained the case for quite some time. Now, with the success of films like Avatar and Alice in Wonderland, it seems like recent major studio releases are cementing the technology's permanence as a part of the movie going experience.

Studios, however, should probably be on notice that families may decide to put their money towards Christmas presents instead of the dozens of premium tickets for these 3D films that they're expected to purchase.
