Tuvaluans are expected to know on Wednesday who will be the country's next prime minister.

Tuvalu went to the polls a week and a half ago, with five seats in its 15-member parliament going to first time MPs.

Caretaker Prime Minister Apisai Ielemia is once again hoping to form government.

However, it's not known if he has the support, with a number of popular first time MPs now in office and expected to challenge.

The government's media department says nominations have now closed for the prime minister's position.

The Governor General's office says nominations will not be revealed until Wednesday.
