NINE INCH NAILS' ALESSANDRO CORTINI Quits; Band To Resume Touring As Four-Piece - Dec. 15, 2008
Alessandro Cortini, keyboard player for NINE INCH NAILS, has announced that he is leaving the band to concentrate on his own projects. He said in a statement, "It's been exactly four years since I joined NINE INCH NAILS and the time has come for me to move onto new things. I feel a need to explore other paths in music and life which leads me to leave the tour at this stage. I am grateful of the chance i was given: it doesn't happen every day to be able to work next to some of the most talented people on this planet. Trent and Co. have been aware of this decision of mine for a while now and are prepared to take the band to the next step. Thanks to all the fans who welcomed me at the beginning of my journey and supported me through the years: I hope to see you around here or there."

NINE INCH NAILS mainman Trent Reznor revealed at the band's December 13, 2008 concert in Las Vegas that the group will hit the road in Australia in January as a four-piece. (See video footage of Trent's speech below.)

NINE INCH NAILS has tapped LOSTPROPHETS' Ilan Rubin to handle the drum duties for the group on the road beginning in early 2009.

Josh Freese, who made his final appearance with NINE INCH NAILS in Las Vegas on December 13, played with the band for the last three years, joining the lineup in late 2005.

Ilan Rubin, 20, began playing drums at the age of 8, when he discovered his father's 1968 Silver Sparkle Ludwig drum kit set up in the garage. He has reportedly taken lessons from BLINK-182's Travis Barker and David Uosikkinen, drummer of famed '80s band THE HOOTERS. He is also an accomplished guitarist and classical pianist.

I guess we'll be getting prerecorded keyboard samples live.

Let me be the first to say that this is bullshit and there HAS to be more to it.

Who the hell quits a successful band that is still actively touring to "concentrate on his own projects" (that realistically will sell a fraction of what NIN has ever sold)???

There's definitely something up...

That being said, technically, NIN doesn't really require a live keyboardist anyway. Toss in a MacBook and you have a suitable replacement...although with more bodies on stage, NIN shows are much more entertaining when Trent goes crashing about.

it must be frustrating to be in a band where you lack even the slightest amount of creative input

I think every one who joins the band sure knows that reznor IS Nine inch nails.

However, if you look into the slip record you can see that the all members did their part on the record and not trent all the stuff.

My hopes is that this shit will hit europe any time soon!

Yeah I don't think I'd quit a huge band like NIN to return to making music in my bedroom. Doesn't sound right to me either.

I saw them twice on this tour, it was a great show, I do feel they could have gotten a bit more attendence if they picked different opening acts...i was not a fan of either of them....they didnt really fit the bill at all

On Vancouver Island....we had "The Bug" open.

Truly the shittiest techno act on the planet.

having to watch "The Warrior Queen" shake her size 93 ass around, night after night.....

I'd quit too.

Didnt Josh Freese quit last week? Trent must be acting like a DICK like he normally does.

What's Trent doing to piss everyone around him off? I would think most artists would love to be able to play around the world with Nine Inch Nails.

If...

the tour isn't selling, then it makes sense to have a cheaper drummer than Josh Freese and use sampled keyboards.

So...

If Trent is being a dick by cutting payroll, then he's just like any other struggling business owner.

Too bad.

He left the band because he wants to spend more time with his family. There was a statement on here earlier last week regarding that situation.

After watching that video clip though, it honestly sounds like there are some serious plans for NIN to hang it up after this tour.

If that's true, I will at least be happy knowing that I saw them live during The Fragile era...With Finck, Lohner, Clouser, Dillon and Reznor - truly a classic line-up.

NIN is not a collaborative effort, it's the band of one creative persons surrounding himself with a bunch of talent musicians to help him back it up. A lot of bands works like that; some of them we're aware of, some we're not.

Line-up changes in NIN only means new blood joining in.

"Who the hell quits a successful band that is still actively touring to "concentrate on his own projects" (that realistically will sell a fraction of what NIN has ever sold)???"

Someone who obviously has more than enough to get by and wants to do his own thing. How is that not understandable? Not everybody cums in their pants at the thought of getting more money.

NIN will survive. I saw them 2x on this tour and it blew my mind. It was the best visual show I have ever seen. Please keep touring Trent and keep making beautiful music!!!!!!!
