Panasonic selects Qt for HD video system

Panasonic Communications Selects Qt Application and UI Framework to Create a new Full-HD Video System

Oslo, Norway - 24 September, 2009 – Nokia today advised that Panasonic Communications Co. Ltd. has used the Qt cross-platform application and UI framework to create the user interface on its KX-VC500 HD visual communication system. To be released in October 2009 in Japan, the KX-VC500 supports up to 1920×1080i resolution and features crystal clear sound, Internet connectivity and full HD video support.

“Qt's powerful framework translates to real cost and time savings for Panasonic Communications in the development of this ground-breaking new HD device," said Junichi Iida, Manager at Panasonic Communications. "In creating these innovations, we depend on a solid development framework - and the high performance that Qt is widely recognised for gives us that technology foundation. Qt is really easy to use. Having access to great documentation and the source code as well as support from Qt experts in Japan, allowed us to learn and start developing very quickly."

Panasonic Communications has embraced the cross-platform nature of the Qt framework to create user interfaces across a range of its other devices including the company’s versatile laser MFP all in one printer, copier, scanner, fax machines, as well as a skype phone. Using Qt, the company is now able to extend a base code structure for user interface development outward to support deployments on different form factor devices across different platforms.

“Panasonic Communications’s selection of Qt to create a user interface for the new full HD visual communication system is evidence of the increasing demand for graphics-intensive applications with high performance requirements. Qt's easy-to-use-framework designed to enable the production of high-performance applications with a native look and feel allows to save both time and development resources,” said Sebastian Nyström, vice president, Qt Software, Nokia.
