Welcome to the Spring Hill Jesuit Community

Spring Hill College was founded by Bishop Portier of Mobile in 1830. Although the Jesuits have served at Spring Hill since 1847, the Society of Jesus does not own the College. Currently thirteen priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus make up the Jesuit community at Spring Hill.  While the college bylaws stipulate that the president must be a Jesuit, Spring Hill is governed by a Board of Trustees composed of a diverse group of women and men, some of whom are Jesuits, while the majority are laypersons. Some Spring Hill Jesuits teach in various departments in the College. Others serve in the College’s administration, campus ministry, student residence halls, and in pastoral outreach in the region, especially to the Hispanic community. The Jesuit commitment to intellectual, moral, and spiritual values continues to be an important influence in shaping the kind of college Spring Hill is and aspires to be. Our community residences are at the north eastern end of the campus, on the block of land at College Lane and Loyola Lane. Our community’s general contact e-mail address is sjcommunity@shc.edu.
