Biography

I was born in ’s-Hertogenbosch (The Netherlands) of Turkish parents. In ‘s-Hertogenbosch I finished primary and secondary school. Since I mastered the Dutch language very quickly, my parents, acquaintances and others brought me along with them to serve as an interpreter or translator. I was very quick with regard to the important issues in society and especially in my grassroots support.

During the last two years of my secondary school, I was a member of the school paper’s editorial staff. In the last year I arranged a number of activities as head of the Student Council among which receiving the designation “School without Racism”.

After secondary school, I took up the study business informatics at the school of higher education in Eindhoven. I completed the study in four years. Alongside my study, I had plenty of time for other activities. For six months, I was a chairman of the intercultural student union Cameleon and I was general editor for a year of “Culture Shock”, the quarterly magazine published by this student union. In addition, I was chairman of the student union “High Density” which was linked to my school.

In January 2000, I started the website http://turkije.pagina.nl which is visited every day by more than 4000 people which makes it the most visited Turkey portal in Dutch. This side was followed by several other websites. In March 2002 the first professional web portal in the Dutch language for and by Turkish Dutch people was launched: http://www.lokum.nl of which I am the co-founder.

In February 2002, I started a company called Saçan Concultancy. It is an Internet consultancy, specialised in Internet promotion. For further information: http://www.saçan.nl.

Now I study information knowledge at the university of Tilburg. Until recently, I worked for an originally Taiwanese company as assistant Accounting & Facility.

Additional positions I have fulfilled:

January 2003 - 2006, chairman of the Turkish youth association in ‘s-Hertogenbosch

Committee member of the Vereniging Vrienden van de Nierstichting (Society of Friends of the kidney association) district northeast Brabant

Committee member Wijkraad Noord (neighbourhood council) in ‘s-Hertogenbosch

Committee member Landelijk beleidsteam Intercultureel Scouting Nederland (national management team of intercultural scouting Holland)

Through all these activities, I very often came into contact with authorities like the local council, welfare services, companies and government agencies. Even then, I noticed that communication was not solid and bureaucracy did not make the situation any better. After some discussions with a number of politicians, I applied for the Werkgroep Jongeren (national work group for youngsters with diabetes) in ‘s Hertogenbosch. It was this group which roused my interest for politics. Since 20 March 2003, I am a member of the Provincial States.

I want to make myself more helpful to society and I hope that the experience of membership of the Provincial States will add a new dimension to my experience in the social sphere.
