From the desk of the President

Dear Membership,

Recently open carry of a handgun has drawn more media and public attention than ever before. Although it does assist us in our goal of educating and desensitizing the public, it also adds responsibility to all of us. The public is now more aware and more observant. Our actions will be watched and reported on. We must hold ourselves to a higher standard in our actions and in our words.

This is where Michigan Open Carry, Inc can be a benefit to all. By leading the way in talking with municipalities, police departments, and elected officials, we are able to educate on open carry and establish working relationships with the leaders of our communities and the state. We can and have become the faces that represent gun owners throughout the state.

Some now believe the days of harassment for open carrying a firearm are over. The public has educated themselves and grown leaps and bounds from just a year ago. We must thank everyone for that. However many are still hesitant to carry where they legally can for fear of being harassed or arrested. This is a clear sign we still have much work ahead of us. We have made great strides, but we cannot become complacent with our recent successes. There is a tremendous amount of work ahead.

The current board is comprised of individuals who are dedicated to leading Michigan Open Carry in these actions. However, we can only complete our goals with you, our members. Every member has something of value to share with the organization. For some it may be your donation of membership fees. Others are able to share their knowledge of current laws, while some are able to work information tables and attend public events. All of these are equally important and necessary to the success of our group. Recognizing everyone’s individual strength benefits all who belong. I ask everyone to please get involved when and where you are able. Strength is in numbers and ours are growing. True strength will come when we show our solidarity in our actions.

Sincerely,

Scott Webb
President
Michigan Open Carry, Inc.
