2004 Alumni Awards announced
The Bellarmine University Alumni Association has announced winners of their annual alumni awards: Alumnus of the Year, the Rev. Msgr. Alfred F. Horrigan Distinguished Service Award, Scarlet and Silver Society, and Gallery of Distinguished Graduates. The award presentation will be made at the alumni association’s annual awards dinner on Sept. 11. For ticket information, please call 452-8333.
Don Mucci is the 2004 "Alumnus of the Year." The award is given in recognition of efforts on behalf of the university. The 1981 graduate of Bellarmine and president of the Mucci Insurance Group, is active on the Bellarmine Board of Overseers and is a past president of the Alumni Board of Directors.
The Rev. Msgr. Alfred F. Horrigan Distinguished Service Award is awarded to a past or present staff or faculty member who has made extraordinary contributions to the college. The 2004 winner is Dr. John Oppelt, who served Bellarmine as a professor, dean, and provost over a 23-year career with Bellarmine. Oppelt retired from Bellarmine in May of 2003.
Carole Pfeffer is this year’s inductee into the Scarlet and Silver Society, which was established by the Alumni Association in 1983 to recognize alumni whose time and effort on Bellarmine's behalf bring honor and distinction to the college. Pfeffer is professor of English at Bellarmine and has been involved in many other facets of the university, including service on the alumni board and as director of the Brown Scholars program.
Bellarmine also is inducting six graduates into its Gallery of Distinguished Graduates: Joseph E. Duerr, Jennifer Frommeyer, Sarah Grivicic, Jennifer Lanham, Robert J. Mullen, and Ruth Shadburne Tillman. The Gallery was established to recognize alumni who have distinguished themselves in professional accomplishment, community service or demonstration of attitudes consistent with Christian doctrines.
