January 2005
Yay, a whole year has passed! Still no updates, although the site might go under a cosmetic redesign in the coming months.
It'll be running on the CMS I've been designing/programming for two years now along with a friend. It'll make site updates
(along the lines of random ramblings) much easier.
In the meantime, it seems like the files for the OpenGL tutorials have gone missing. And I have no backup of them. Yikes!
That should teach me from uploading them to some local host and hoping they would stay there for years. So, if anybody
has the files for those tutorials backed up somewhere, please be so kind and send them to me :). It would make many people happy
:p.
PS. Let's play a guessing game: which comes out first: the SDL Lesson 7 or Duke Nukem Forever? Those who guess correctly will
get a virtual pat on the back.

Quick note: anybody posting under my name in the talkbox is somebody pretending to be me. So beware.
December 2003
Hi. This is not an update and there won't be any update for some time now.
I don't have time to work on this site anymore. For now. I haven't forgotten
it and *will* resume work on it some day. Probably in the summer. Who knows... The development of tux-n-run (previosly known as the SDL Lesson nr. 7) is also halted. I will not give *any* release dates because I know I can't keep them.
I'm so tired with all the kiddies whining how I'm some lazy s.o.b. who doesn't update the site on purpose, etc. To them I have just one thing say for them: Shut The Fuck Up. I have so much going on that I just can't keep track of it all. Try learning something, doing something productive and simply respecting the work I have done and the time and effort I have put into it. Just use the site as the resource it can be and stop complainig.
One thing is certain: the site will NOT be taken down. Period. One day I will resume work on it. But until then, don't send me any mails because they will go unanswered.
Happy holidays everyone and thank you for all your support!
25 June - Tux-n-Run
After the long lasting silence on this site, there is finally some new news!
I've been doing some coding on the game that's the basis for lesson 7 for some
time now. The game will be a full-blown game, not just a sample for the lesson.
The game is called Tux-n-Run. I've set up a site dedicated to it here:
http://tux-n-run.sourceforge.net.
After the game is complete (or close to it) - and trust me, it will be complete
this summer - i'll write the SDL lesson 7. The lesson will be more about designing
a game like Tux-n-Run than about describing what each and every line of code does
(like the previous lessons have done). Basically, i'll give you LOTS of concepts
on building such a game, without too much code.
On an other note i'm away from my home at the moment and will be for some of
the following weeks. I'm on vacation and spending about a month in Sweden.
This doesn't mean that development of the code is halted. The pace of
development has even increased because of better working conditions and fewer
distractions.
And finally, sorry for all the unanswered e-mails. I'll start answering them
in the next few days.
PS. The site has reached around 200,000 visits now! Hurray! It's good to see
people still visiting it even though of the rare updates :).
05 November - Lesson 7 update
Hi, I've been messing around with Lesson 7 for a while now. You can grab the code/game/files here:
http://cone3d.gamedev.net/lesson7/
18 October - Sorry... :(
Hi folks. First, I'd like to apologize for being away from the site for nearly
four months now :(. When you have so many things/projects/sites going on like me,
it's hard to stay focused on one thing for a long time. And don't think I enjoyed
not working on this site for so long. I couldn't stand it... :(
Also, one more bad thing: I was unable to read my mail from 11. august till today.
Mozilla just wouldn't download any. It seemed that I had given it a wrong password
at some point in time. To me, it just seemed that nobody wrote anything. Today,
after upgrading to Mozilla 1.1, I re-entered the password and got a bunch of new
mail that I never saw before. There were some really nice comments and some questions.
The most frequent mails were about the gccwin.zip file that's not downloadable because
of a broken link (opengl tuts). Unfortuanetly I've lost all traces to that file from my hard
drive and other places where it could reside. So, until I can get a replacement,
try using Dev-C++ WITH gcc instead of manually using it from a shell. Follow the guidelines
in the first SDL tutorial, but instead of "-lmingw32 -lSDLmain -lSDL", use "-lmingw32
-lSDLmain -lSDL -lglu32 -lopengl32 -lglut".
SDL Lesson 7 is not out yet :(. I don't know when it'll come out. Since I'm some sort
of perfectionist, I won't release it until it's 100% ready. So far I've rewritten it
about 3-4 times, but I'm still not happy with the result. The thing that bothers me the most
is the player movement. He moves fine, doesn't fall through floors, but it's not
real. The movement is not 100% accurate nor good. Did you know, that I also rewrote
the 6'th lesson about 2-4 times before it got to the state it is today? Probably not.
I'll probably rewrite Lesson 7 again from scratch at least once before it comes out
some cold winter night (if not later). For people who like to experiment, the current
code for the lesson can be found here: http://cone3d.gamedev.net/lesson7/...
If anyone is really interested, besides the 7th SDL lesson, other things I want to
do some time in the future are: a radiosity renderer and a bsp engine. I've been
planning to do them for a long time now, but haven't even written any code. I think
I'm able to create and finish them, If I just have enough time and will to do them.
Well, in conclusion, I just hope somebody somewhere accepts my apology and isn't
furious at me for not replying to his/her/their e-mail(s) for the last couple of
months. I'm sorry :(.
BTW, if you haven't used mozilla, you should give it a go. It's a really great browser :D.
26 June - 1 year
The first news on this site was posted exactly one year ago, which means that the site is now 1 year old :).
The next SDL tut will be out when it's ready. No date yet. I'm still looking for a tile/sprite artist. If you're one, let me know :).
