Land-Of-the-Lost_1Did you have to audition to get this role?

Yes, I auditioned two times to get this role. I read for the casting director for the role and they ended up casting guys much bigger than me. I am 6'5" and have a lean Athletic build, and they hired guys who were 6'7" and taller, and weighed over 250 pounds. When the film was being edited, they wanted to make them even bigger and move faster. They auditioned people again and Kenneth Branagh chose me to perform the motion capture movements of the Frost Giants.

Through your career, you have joined a lot of productions, which have often led you to play fantasy or alien creatures. What do you feel whilst impersonating such unique characters?

I have really enjoyed the creatures I have played. It feels really great to bring to life something so different from yourself and a human. I really get into these characters and live and breathe in there skin. I feel like I get better and learn something new on every character I play.

How much time have you worked on Thor set?

I worked on the Thor set for a couple weeks. It was intense work. Non stop action every day, but it was so exciting to be a part of. I knew I was working on a great film, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Could you describe the actualization of the Frost Giants? Was it all about the makeup, or some CGI techniques as the motion capture, or was it a mix of the two things?

Everything I did was Motion Capture. I performed the fights, falls, running, and everything you could imagine from attacking someone to getting attacked. The shots in the film where you see action you will see me duplicated into several CGI Frost Giants.

Which have been the instructions of the film director about the characterization and the turnout of these characters?

Kenneth Branagh was so detailed with how he saw the Frost Giant. He is an actor himself so he was very animated and showed me exactly how he wanted the physicality of the Frost Giant movements and character. I was allowed to play some, but most of my movements came from Kenneth Branagh's imagination.

Have you mainly drawn from comic sources or from the northern mythology?

Neither, I usually train really hard physically for every role I play. I read the script several times and start working on how the character moves, how he walks, how he thinks. I also speak with the director and writer about the character and it slowly evolves into what you see onscreen. It is an exciting process to me and every role is different.

Could you describe for us the set you have worked on - and that we could catch a glimpse of in the trailers?

I can't speak to much about the set due to the confidentiality agreement I signed, but you can see me in the trailer getting hit in the face by Thor's Hammer.

Which are currently your future projects?

Well, I am currently working on a film called Stitch, with Terminator's Edward Furlong. I also have several films in post production which will be released this year and in 2012. Be on the lookout for Knights of Badassdom, One by One: Death's Door, The Pod, and I play a recurring character on the Disney show, Pair of Kings.
