Hound sharks are a family, Triakidae, of , consisting of about 40 species in 9 genera. In some classifications, the family is split in two, with Mustelus, Scylliogaleus, and Triakis in Triakidae, and the remaining genera in Galeorhinidae.

Hound sharks are distinguished by possessing two large spineless dorsal fins, an anal fin, and oval eyes with nictitating eyelids. They are small to medium in size, ranging from 37 centimetres (15 in) to 220 centimetres (7.2 ft) in adult length. They are found throughout the world in warm and temperate waters, where they feed on fishes and invertebrates on the seabed and in midwater.1]

Furgaleus

The whiskery shark, Furgaleus macki, is a of the family Triakidae, the only member of the genus Furgaleus, found worldwide on the continental shelf in the subtropical eastern Indian Ocean at depths of up to 220 m. It grows to 1.6 m long. [more]

The school shark, tope shark, soupfin shark or snapper shark, Galeorhinus galeus, is a of the family Triakidae, the only member of the genus Galeorhinus, found worldwide in subtropical seas at depths of up to 550 m. It grows to 2 m long. [more]

The sailback houndshark, Gogolia filewoodi, is a of the family Triakidae, the only member of the genus Gogolia, found in deep water on the continental shelf off northern Papua New Guinea. Only one specimen is known, 74  cm long and found at a depth of 73 m. [more]

Hypogaleus

The blacktip tope, Hypogaleus hyugaensis, is a of the family Triakidae, the only member of the genus Hypogaleus, found in deep water on the continental shelf in the Indo-West Pacific from East Africa to Japan, at depths of between 40 and 230 m. Its length is up to 1.27 m long. [more]
