The two hotel bathrooms that made the Top 10 finalist list for the coveted title of "America's Best Restroom" are:

  • The lobby bathrooms inside the newly opened Renaissance Arlington Capital View in Crystal City, Va., near the Pentagon.
  • The rooftop pool bathrooms at the Joule boutique hotel in Dallas.

Cintas Corp., which makes cleaning products, has been sponsoring the quirky contest for 10 years.

The public will help the determine the ultimate winner this fall.

In Northern Virginia, the Renaissance public bathroom last March caught my attention because of its soothing sunset colors and dramatic silhouettes of birds in mid-flight.

The look really pops, especially in a neighborhood of otherwise-bland office towers. Mirrors above the vanity feature bird silhouettes that are back-lit. You also get a special treat when you turn on the faucet; the water flows in a red-lit stream if it's hot, and blue stream if cold.

In Dallas, the Joule hotel created an aqua-blue themed bathroom complete with a fun outdoor shower.

The shower's decorated with beautiful blue mosaic tiles to depict other people showering. The blue matches the pool's clear blue water, and the design's carried into the rest of the bathroom along with contemporary art, wood paneling, modern lighting and cloth hand towels.

You have until Sept. 19, 2011 to vote. You can review all 10 candidates and vote on www.bestrestroom.com. The winner will be announced this fall.
