About

The University Archives and Records Program preserves the documentary evidence of the history of the University of Kentucky, provides assistance and information to patrons researching the history of the institution, and administers the Records Program of the University.

Navigation: This website is divided into three main sections: University Archives which deals with the history of UK, the Records Program which relates to records management activities, and general UARP information.

UARP is a unit within the UK Libraries' Special Collections, located in the Margaret I. King Building.

The University Archives and Records Program (UARP) is comprised of two units and has as its mission three primary functions. The University Archives maintains archival holdings which preserve the history of the University of Kentucky and provides a Reference Center for research in primary and secondary historical sources and for the dissemination of information about the institution's history. The University Records Program administers and coordinates the Records Program of the University of Kentucky.

The University Archives is the officially designated repository for all permanent records generated by the University of Kentucky, and its holdings document many aspects of the University's history. A large percentage of the available resources within the University Archives are committed to the organization and preservation of these historical materials so as to make them readily available for institutional and public use.

The Records Program coordinates records management efforts throughout the University system, ensuring that records procedures are consistent and fulfill internal needs and external requirements. The Program helps UK units apply the State University Model Records Schedule to their records and advises them on such topics as records reformatting and storage. The Records Program is an important first step in capturing and preserving University records for the University Archives. The University Archives and Records Program (UARP) is a component of the University of Kentucky Libraries' Special Collections and is housed on the second floor of the Margaret I. King Building (see: The University of Kentucky Campus Guide---Margaret I. King Library), which is located in the northeastern portion of the University's central campus, between Library Drive and Patterson Drive, near Rose Street on the east and the White Hall Classroom Building on the west, and adjacent to Maxwell Place, official home of the President of the University. Visitors parking is available by permit or in metered spaces in lots adjacent to the King Library building, accessible through Gate 3 (off Rose Street), the Student Center Addition, accessible through Gate 4 (off Euclid Avenue), and in Parking Garage #5 (on Limestone Street).
