Already 3000 people missing

According to Human Rights Watch, nearly 3,000 opponents and demonstrators arrested in Syria have already disappeared. To this figure that gives a chilling, one must add the 1,500 deaths and 12,000 arrests since the start of the protests in March. These figures give an overview of the terrible and violent repression of the regime against the legitimate demands of the protesters.

The Evolution of Saudi Arabia’s role in the Global Oil Market and in the OPEC

Saudi Arabia has for years dominated the global energy and especially the oil scene due to its reserves, production potentials, reliability and consistent production and pricing policies through most of the market turns. This role will continue into the next few decades as global oil demand patterns shift with the developing countries and the transportation sector dominating growth potentials. As supply from non-OPEC regions such as the European Union dwindle due to maturity of production, global demand for oil will be met by increasing supplies from the Middle East, most notably Saudi Arabia, and the consolidation of European energy interests towards this oil-rich part of the world.

2010 : a year of transition?

1st January 2011

The year 2009 ended a year ago with an unpromising situation on the scene of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and a tense political and economic situation in Egypt, while Dubai succumbed to the financial crisis, while we were attending the rise Turkey and Syria as strategic powers and while Libya was imposing its will to the European states. The year 2010 has confirmed some trends, overturned others and has also brought us some surprises.
