Posh Swoop For Dagenham Teenager

Posted on: Wed 27 Aug 2008

Peterborough United have beaten off competition from two Championship clubs and Coca-Cola League One side Huddersfield Town to sign Dagenham and Redbridge teenager Dominic Green for an undisclosed fee.

Chairman Darragh MacAnthony has described the transfer as the 'biggest amount of money spent on one player this summer'. Green has put pen to paper on a four-year contract at London Road after manager Darren Ferguson met with the 19-year-old and convinced him that Posh was the place to be.

Ferguson told theposh.com: 'He is a quick left-winger and we have done very well to get him because it looked like he was on his way to Huddersfield Town. Crystal Palace were in for him too so I managed to get him to the club and convinced him that this was the place to be.

'I am delighted with the signing because it gives us good options in all positions and maybe an overload of wingers, but we are obviously trying to offload Josh Low. It is along the policy of signing young, hungry players and I believe the lad has real potential.

'It gives me the option if I wanted to play George Boyd in one or in the hole behind the front two and it is always good to have that opportunity. We have Sergio Torres, Shaun Batt and Chris Whelpdale on the other side of midfield and that is plenty of options.

'It says a lot for how far we have come as a football club to be beating off competition from two Championship clubs and Huddersfield Town. I am very pleased with the signing, he is an exciting talent,' Ferguson said.

Green scored on the opening day of the season with a well-taken free-kick as Dagenham beat Chester City 6-0. Green was signed by Dagenham after impressing for a scheme arranged by West Ham United.
