TAMPA
With 10 games left in the regular season, FC Tampa Bay has to like where it sits in the NASL standings considering its early-season injuries and onfield inconsistency. FC Tampa Bay (6-6-6, 24 points) heads into Saturday's game at last-place Atlanta in fifth place with four home games and six road games remaining. Six teams make the playoffs. Tampa Bay has been one of the league's top teams the past two months, going 4-2-2 in league play since a 2-1 loss to first-place Carolina on June 4. That doesn't include a 1-0 friendly win over the English Premier League's Bolton.
The club owns four wins and five ties against its remaining opponents, including three games (two at home) against Minnesota, which is in a tie for third with Edmonton (25 points).

ST. PETERSBURG — FC Tampa Bay coach Ricky Hill missed the team's previous two games after traveling to Jamaica to be with family after the death of his mother-in-law.
Fittingly, his son Shane Hill, who remained with the team, provided the winning goal in his father's return to the sideline Wednesday against FC Edmonton.

Sure, there was a stretch in 2009 when he had a goal in his first three games after being traded from Carolina to Miami in the USL First Division for the final month of the season.

ATLANTA — FC Tampa Bay's unbeaten streak ended Saturday with a 2-1 loss to Atlanta, the NASL's last-place team, at Atlanta Silverbacks Park.
Tampa Bay (5-6-6) came in undefeated in its past four league games and five overall, including an exhibition win over Bolton of the English Premier League. But Tampa Bay, which erased a 1-0 deficit in its last game, a 2-1 win July 17 at Edmonton, could not come back from a 2-0 hole after 41 minutes against Atlanta.

TAMPA
The vibe around the Shimberg Complex, the training home for FC Tampa Bay, has been decidedly more positive in recent weeks. And not just because Tampa Bay is unbeaten in its past five games and on a two-match winning streak. For the first time since the start of the season, the team is close to full strength. Midfielder Chad Burt (right foot) said he's close to match ready and hopes to be available Wednesday when Tampa Bay hosts FC Edmonton at Al Lang Field in St. Petersburg.
Takuya Yamada (groin) was used as a second-half substitute in the team's road victory over Edmonton and hasn't been limited in practice this week. Fellow Japanese midfielder Tsuyoshi Yoshitake (hamstring) isn't practicing with the team yet but is day-to-day.

ST. PETERSBURG — Before FC Tampa Bay's friendly against Bolton of the English Premier League, Tampa Bay coach Ricky Hill stressed the importance of beginning the second half of the season on a positive note, starting Thursday at Al Lang Field.
With 13 NASL games remaining, Tampa Bay sits sixth in the league and would be the last team to qualify for the postseason were it to start today.

TAMPA — The Bolton Wanderers arrived in Florida on Sunday for their three-game United States preseason trip with plenty to accomplish.
The English Premier League club's swing opens tonight against second-division FC Tampa Bay at Al Lang Field. Bolton faces Orlando City of the third-division USL Pro league Sunday and Houston of first-division MLS on Wednesday.
