- The Killing
The plot thickens - if that is indeed possible - in this labyrinthine and compelling cocktail of criminal investigation and political intrigue. At its hub is the unlikely detective duo of Sarah and Holder, whose different methods threaten to blow the whole investigation to kingdom come (for the third time, vital information about the murder is leaked to the press). Then, while following a lead on Muhammad (Bennet's friend and possible accomplice), the two detectives chance upon a terrorist plot which is being investigated by the FBI. Elsewhere, in the political arena, Adams and Richmond continue to batter each other in the run-up to the mayoral elections. The Killing is essential viewing for all serious couch potatoes.

- Torchwood: Miracle Day
A new season may be in doubt - it all depends on the availability of creator Russell T Davies - but this frantic mix of thriller and sci-fi continues to straddle not just genres but continents as the Torchwood team, under the steely control of Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman), strive to solve a global conspiracy. This week Gwen, Rex and Esther are trapped on both sides of the Atlantic and the clock is, as they say in all good thrillers, ticking. The glitzy cast includes Eve Myles, Mekhi Phifer, Bill Pullman and Alexa Havins.

- Single-Handed
Series finale of the cop drama set in the lonesome west of Ireland, where Sergeant Jack Driscoll (Owen McDonnell) appears to be fighting a one-man battle against all things illegal. With little help from his deputy, a career-minded opportunist (David Herlihy), Driscoll is very often like Gary Cooper's sheriff in High Noon. Tonight, with his own career in the balance, Driscoll is facing a losing battle against the Machiavellian Costello (Sean McGinley).

- The Good Wife
If it's Thursday, it must be The Good Wife (or The Killing). Tonight in the classy legal procedural, Alicia (the classy Julianna Margulies) vies with Louis Canning to rack up the highest number of clients for an Erin Brockovich-style class action lawsuit ('Real Deal'). This is followed by 'Net Worth' in which Will and Diane take on a defamation case from a young billionaire who is suing a film studio for portraying him in a negative light (echoes of The Social Network and Mack Zuckerberg?).

- Mrs Brown's Boys
With humour as broad as the Liffey (at its mouth), Brendan O'Carroll brings his stage and screen Big Mama to the small screen. Mrs Brown (O'Carroll as the most unlikely-looking woman since Dick Emery) drops more double entendres than the cast of a Carry On movie as she/he sets out to do good by her blue collar brood. Unfortunately the best laid plans, etc. This week, in the BAFTA-nominated drama, her boy Dermot has some crafty plans for his imminent nuptials.
