As dire and imminent a threat as our national energy crisis is, there is good news. We really do have the means to avoid this crisis! But first we must all become energy literate.

The vast majority of Americans simply don’t adequately understand the magnitude and urgency of our national energy crisis. They don’t know that global supplies of oil will soon be insufficient to meet global energy demand. And they don’t know how deeply our national energy policy of reliance on unstable supplies of oil imports now drives our foreign policy, our economic policy, our military policy, and our environmental policy. That lack of understanding deprives our democracy of the political will that must be generated in order to adequately address this crisis.

Energy Literacy Advocates exists to provide balanced, non-partisan information to three key sectors of our democracy: citizens, policy makers, and the media. Only when all three groups are sufficiently informed about possible energy resource mix choices and public policy implementation tools will a national dialogue begin that leads to the tough choices necessary to create a sustainable and responsible energy future. We simply all must be headed the same direction in order to solve our energy issues – a task we are surely up to once we put our will and minds to it.

ELA seeks only to act as a catalyst by disseminating information through a public multi-media campaign as well as private informational meetings with key policy makers and news media personnel. We aim to reach and teach our democracy with messages that are both readily accessible and easy to understand.

As necessary and timely as a national education project like this is, it is also an ambitious undertaking. In order for us toact as big as we must think, we need your help!
