Waqar Younis resigns as Pakistan coach

Bowling great Waqar Younis has resigned as the head coach of Pakistan on personal grounds and Zimbabwe tour will be his last assignment in the current job.

The 39-year-old former pace bowler will complete his duties by leading the team on their forthcoming tour of Zimbabwe.

Waqar, who accepted the post in March 2010, told a press conference in Lahore: "I have tendered my resignation to the board last week and the tour to Zimbabwe will be my last.

"I have taken this decision on personal grounds, including medical grounds, and have no differences with anyone. My resignation has been accepted."

Waqar's reign has been a turbulent one, with the team hit by a spot-fixing controversy last year which ultimately led to three players - Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer - being banned.
