Michel Vautrot, one of the best French referees ever, took charge of 5 World Cup matches: 2 in 1982 and 3 in 1990, one was the final. In France he holds the record of having taken charge of 5 National Cup finals.
FIFA instructor since 1991, the Frenchman is a real referee VIP in France and he had different high-end jobs and he even had his own radio show..

farmers
Born into a family of farmers Vautrot wasn't astrong boy. He even lost a year of school because of heart problems. When at 14 he heard someone remark about the importance of a referee he knew what he wanted to be. A year later he already refereed a few matches in a local tournament. In 1963 he was officially a referee and before he became professional he worked for the sports section of a newspaper.
He was an international referee from 1975 till the end of 1991.

but
he resigned from football and refereeing commissions in 2003 because of the (smallish in comparison) "affaire de portables" scandal. See Stephane Bre for more information.

Too many to name, have a look at his palmares and count the ones that say "final"
