Break Journey

Break Journey:- Holders of single journey tickets for a distance of more than 500 Km.(actual distance)are allowed to break Journey at any station enroute. The first break of journey shall not however be made until a distance of 500 Kms has been traveled from the starting station. Only one break journey will be permitted on tickets upto 1000 Kms of distances and maximum two break journey will be allowed on tickets of longer distances. The period break journey that can availed at a station will be upto a maximum of 2 days only excluding the day of arrival and the day of departure. However break journey on single journey tickets over suburban section of Indian Railway will not be permitted. For all return tickets each half of the tickets is treated as a single journey ticket but the return journey must be completed within the period for which the tickets is available.

Examples:-

(i) Passenger with single journey ticket for 800 Km wants to break his journey at 423 Kms not permissible.

(ii) A passenger with single journey tickets for 600 Kms want to break his journey at 501 kms. Permitted for 2 days.

(iii) A passenger with single journey ticket for 1050 kms want to break his journey at 400 kms and 801 kms . only one break journey at 801 kms is permitted for 2 days maximum.

(iv) A passenger with single journey tickets for 2000 kms want to break journey at 800 kms 905 kms and 1505 kms. Two break journeys permitted as per choice of passenger at the rate of 2 days maximum at each point of break of journey.

Whenever a through passenger detrains at station enroute for catching a connecting train, it should not be treated as break journey provided such a halt is for less than 24 hrs. For example, the holder of a direct ticket from Jaisalmer to Howrah via Jodhpur travelling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur by any day train a day earlier in order to catch Jodhpur -Howrah Superfast Exp. in evening at 17.15 hrs. shall not be treated as a break of journey.

Note:-

(i) Break of journey is not permissible on the tickets of certain trains like Rajdhani Express, Shatabdi Express, etc. which have a separate all inclusive fare structure on point-to-point basis, and, therefore, refund on such partially used tickets is also not admissible.

(ii) Passengers are required to have their tickets endorsed while breaking and recommencing journey. The endorsement shall consist of the station code, Station Master's Initials and the date.

(iii) Break journey shall not be permitted short of the station upto which reservation has been done. If a passenger seeking reservation on through tickets asks for break journey enroute it should be clearly indicated on the requisition form the names of the station where the break journey is requested, Reservation in this case will be done upto break journey station only.

(iv) Passengers breaking the journey enroute except as given above must surrender their tickets at the station where journey is broken. Refund for the un traveled portion on such tickets will be allowed only in special circumstances provided the tickets is surrendered within 24 hrs. of the arrival of the train at the station where journey is terminated and an application for refund is made to CCM(Refund) of the TDR issuing Railway along with TDR within 90 days from the schedule date of journey. Refund on such partially used tickets is not admissible at the station.
