John McGovern strikes against Benfica. If you would like to see the match reports from the Real Madrid, Finn Harps, Benfica and Juventus games visit http://www.therams.co.uk where you will find an extensive match report database !

The Glory days of Clough and Mackay meant that at last the Rams could take part in European competition.

The Rams competed in the European Cup in 1972-73 & 1975-76.

In the 1972 competition the Rams reached the semi-final of the Champions cup (beating the mighty Benfica 3-0 on the way!) where they controversially lost to Juventus over two legs with allegations of bribery and referee favouritism leaving a bitter after-taste.

In the 1975 competition, the Derby public where treated to
two spectacular matches against Real Madrid.

At the Baseball Ground the Rams pummeled the 'Kings of Europe' 4-1, unfortunately the Spaniards returned the compliment by beating the Rams 5-1.

The Rams also competed in the UEFA Cup of 1974-75, 1976-77.

In the 1976 cup the Rams ran up a record 12-0 score against Irish side Finn Harps.

More recently, though it has to be said less impressively the Rams were runners-up in the 1993 Anglo-Italian Cup losing to Cremonese 3-1.
