About William Fichtner

« Back to Previous Page

William Fichtner was born on Long Island and raised in Cheektowaga, NY. From this suburb outside of Buffalo, Fichtner came to Farmingdale State in 1974 to major in criminal justice. His father believed it was a good career choice. It may have been, but once he attended a Broadway play at the invitation of his counselor, Don Harvey, a career in criminal justice faded in importance. This is why, for many years, Bill returned to the College to announce the winner of the Don Harvey Memorial Scholarship and why he took time from his increasingly hectic film schedule in September 1997 to attend the dedication of the Wall of Honor, which contained a brick dedicated to Don Harvey’s memory. He further showed his commitment to Farmingdale State by returning to share his career path with students in career exploration classes. This is why he is returning again in 2006 to talk to students and share an exclusive sneak preview of his newest film, The Amateurs. When asked by a local television reporter why he does it, he told her, “Because I love the place!”
