10-man QPR snatched a dramatic point in second-half stoppage time, thanks to Richard Dunne's late, late own goal.

A match full of controversy after the half-time break, the R's were forced to contend with what appeared to be an unconvincing penalty award, as well as a red card for defender Armand Traore.

But, in typical Rangers style under the stewardship of Neil Warnock, they battled back to claim the point that they unquestionably deserved.

Barry Bannan put Aston Villa into the lead from the spot in the 58th minute, after Traore was adjudged to have tugged back Gabriel Agbonlahor in the box - even though replays showed that to be a harsh decision.

Traore was then handed his second yellow card in the 90th minute, before Rangers levelled three minutes into added time.

Substitute Heidar Helguson's cross from the left ricocheted off Stephen Warnock and then smashed against the leg of Dunne, before the ball trickled into the back of the net.

Warnock made one change to his side following last weekend's magnificent victory at Wolves.

Fitz Hall came in for Danny Gabbidon at the heart of the R's defence, after the Welsh international picked up a knee injury in our 3-0 win at Molineux.

Luke Young kept his place in QPR's starting XI, to face the team that he left to join Rangers just a month ago.

DJ Campbell, a former trainee with the Villans, started from the bench.

Paddy Kenny was in goal, behind a back four of Young, Hall, Anton Ferdinand and Traore.

Shaun Derry and Ale Faurlin were in defensive midfield, while Shaun Wright-Phillips, Adel Taarabt and Joey Barton were deployed further forward.

Jay Bothroyd led the R's line up front.

Buoyed by last Saturday's win in the Black Country, Rangers began brightly and twice went close inside the opening 10 or so minutes.

Good work from Wright-Phillips on the edge of his own box saw the tricky midfielder play a fantastic long pass to Taarabt and, when the latter slipped a ball to Bothroyd inside the opposite penalty area, the former Cardiff front-man's resultant shot deflected wide off his marker for a corner.

On six minutes, only the frame of the goal prevented QPR from taking an early lead.

Faurlin slipped a clever pass into Taarabt, before the Moroccan Magician showed tremendous skill to shift his way past his marker.

In space, Taarabt looked up on 25 yards before unleashing a beautifully-struck curling effort that smashed off the right-hand post and wide.

12 minutes later, Rangers again went close. Traore was unfairly felled out wide on the right and, when Barton stepped up to fire over a teasing cross into the path of Bothroyd, the R's striker could only nod his header wide of the left-hand post.

The R's were now firmly on top. More lovely passing play from QPR saw the ball eventually fall to Bothroyd down the right-hand channel.

The Rangers number 10 cut back on to his stronger left foot before sending over a dangerous cross for Barton at the back post, who swiped at his effort before the ball was cleared from danger.

QPR's dominance in the opening period wasn't exactly welcomed by the travelling Villa faithful, who proceeded to jeer their side towards the end of the first half.

However, Alex McLeish's charges almost put themselves into an unlikely lead just a minute before the break.

Ferdinand gave away a free-kick on 25 yards and, when Bannan stepped up to curl a left-footed shot towards the top right-hand corner of the net, Kenny scurried across his line to pull off an outstanding one-handed save, before Rangers eventually cleared their lines.

Whatever Villa boss McLeish said to his players at half-time obviously had the desired effect, as the visitors came out for the second period much stronger.

That being said, there wasn't much to choose between the two sides at the start of the second half - although it was Villa who were first to go close.

Bannan played a delightful ball over the top of the R's defence and, when Kenny raced off his line to clear the ball, Fabian Delph nipped in to lob the onrushing keeper with an effort that trickled agonisingly wide of the left-hand post.

Drama then struck on 58 minutes. Stephen Warnock sent over a cross from the left that cleared the box and went out for a goal kick before the referee, much to the surprise of everyone - including the Villa players - signalled for a penalty.

Mr Oliver appeared to suggest that Traore pulled back Agbonlahor, even though replays would suggest that was a harsh decision. The left-back was then booked in the process.

Bannan stepped up to take the resultant penalty and made no mistake thereafter, tucking the ball into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.

Villa almost doubled their advantage just two minutes later, after Charles N'Zogbia drilled an effort into the side netting from 10-yards out.

The visitors' opening goal meant that this was fast-becoming an end-to-end affair.

That point was exemplified when Rangers broke in the 69th minute. Taarabt's cross from the right was nodded down by substitute DJ Campbell, before Wright-Phillips' subsequent effort forced a magnificent save from Shay Given, who tipped the ball wide.

Three minutes later, the controversy continued.

Taarabt's corner found Derry and, when the former Crystal Palace midfielder sent a header goalwards, Alan Hutton appeared to handle the ball. The referee, however, would wave away all R's appeals.

Play continued to switch from one end to the other and, in the 90th minute, QPR were reduced to 10 men.

Traore was shown his second yellow card, following a late challenge on Marc Albrighton.

Five minutes of added time then went up on the board, before Rangers grabbed an equaliser that they fully deserved.

Substitute Helguson picked up possession on the left-hand byline and, when his cross bounced off the leg of Warnock, Dunne couldn't get out of the way in time, as the ball bounced off the Villa centre-half and into the net.
