Limited, the main contractor, has begun work on the redevelopment
of the Rotunda Museum. A team of skilled specialists
will resotre the grade II* listed museum to its best, creating
conditions and facilities that will allow the museum to thrive in
the 21
st century.
Lord Derwent, Chairman of the Scarborough Museums Trust,
said:
‘It is very exciting to see the contractors on site. I believe
the Rotunda is going to be a marvellous museum, linking seamlessly
with the Dinosaur Coast and providing a gateway to Scarborough’s
unique geology for residents and visitors.’

Member for Tourism and Leisure, added:
‘It is marvellous that to see the contractors on site and work
beginning. The Rotunda is now moving forward and contributing
to the renaissance of Scarborough kick-starting the development of
the Cultural Quarter by acting as a catalyst for the
heritage-based, tourism-led regeneration of Scarborough’.

Anelay Ltd are one of the UK’s oldest construction companies,
formed in 1747. Current projects include St. Anne’s Cathedral
in Leeds, Bowes Museum in Co. Durham, Gorton Monastery and one of
the winners of the BBC’s Restoration programme Victoria Baths, both
in Manchester.
The redevelopment of this unique museum has been funded by
awards from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the European Regional
Development Fund and private sector donations from individuals and
companies.
The redevelopment of the Rotunda Museum is being managed
through a partnership between the Scarborough Museums Trust and
Scarborough Borough Council.
It is estimated that building work will last approximately one
year, to be followed the installation of the museum exhibition fit
out and re‑display of objects. The geological themed landscaping of
the site will occur simultaneously.
